mk1 vrs front shocks

Featured Replies

I have just had 2 front shocks fitted on my mk1 skoda octavia vrs. I got the bill and it is a insanly high figure. Just wondering how much it is EACH for the front shocks?

Where did you get them fitted. At dealer they are extremly expensive.

Can you state the price or would you rather not?

Completely off topic but didn't you use to have a classic impreza WRX wagon?

I think I was once quoted £170 per shock for the front ones not including the labour, I think the whole lot would have come to well over £500 :(

Ridiculous when you can buy a full set of Weitec coilies for £390

Yes I did. It was a silver import one. I liked that. How did you find that out?? Scoobynet forum , I guess....

After that I then had a Mondeo ST200 ltd edition, then had a Green UK Classic Impreza, then a MG ZS180(don't ask), then a Golf GTI mk 4 turbo, Then another white classic impreza which brings me to the VRS.

You had to ask......:D

I bought the OEM alloys off it via Ebay (for my classic Green UK Impreza) . I had a Focus ST 225 and now we both own Skodas. Small world... :D

Ah, I see small world it is. How did your ST225 compare to the VRS. I neally got one of those too, but boot space put me off.

I also neally had a moment of madness and bought a Focus RS(older style)

bad spelling

Boot space was an issue too - no problems with the VRS here.

Loved the 5 cylinder engine in the Focus, was remapped to 270bhp. Hated it too - it drank fuel - 23-25mpg. :) Ride / handling was more fun too IMO.

However the VRS returns 42 mpg, takes all the babies stuff and with the remap it's no slouch either whilst still fun to drive on the twisties.

Bought some Golf 4motion front shocks last year from a VW dealer, £67 inc vat each. Would have thought the vRS ones would be a very similar price?

Well the front springs are £78 each from Skoda, so I'd imagine the dampers are even more.

Skoda also charge about £70 per hour too, which doesn't help! To change 1 front spring they quoted 1.4hours.

Garages seem to get away with charging loads for this job because it sounds complicated and scary, but in reality changing the front shocks is a piece of piddle! If you knew what you were doing you could easily do the front in under 2 hours.

It's not a hard job, but how often do you do it to write down the cost of the spring compressors?

2x front struts + labour £470

2x front struts + labour £470

So maybe they charged for 4 hours labour (2 hours per side), and then £100 per strut.

Ask for a cost breakdown if you're interested. I always make sure I get a full cost breakdown beforehand, just so I can see if I can beat their prices for parts.

retail on skoda front shocks is £92.76 each plus vat

2x front struts + labour £470

:eek::eek:...ouch!!!! thats a lot of money!!! id want springs & shocks all round supplied & fitted for that!

2x front struts + labour £470

Wow that is a huge amount. I would of thought Skoda would do that for a hour a side.:thumbdwn:
