Is It Leather?

Featured Replies

My black magic pearl l&k octy has the light grey leather interior;I'm not totally convinced that all or any of it is the genuine article, although the blurb reads'full leather interior' or whatever.

I'm not even sure whether the s/wheel or gear knob gaiter is kosher.

Whaddya think?

Well unless someone stripped the entire interior after it left the factory I think you may be mistaken. Might not be top quality leather but it's not Bentley price either.

Seat fronts leather, the seat backs etc will be matching "plastic"!!..

I doubt any of it is Kosher, or even Halal for that matter.

There was some debate about whether the steering wheel was leather in another thread but I think the consensus was that it is.

If the steering wheel cover is stitched it will be leather. As will be the seat facings, gear shift gaiter etc. I agree that there is not sufficient grain pattern to satisfactorily simulate p*g skin or whatever. Definitely not kosher.

Hold a lighter to it.

If it melts its not leather

The seat faces are leather, the steering wheel is leather, the gear gaitor is a different matter, I think its imitation leather myself, under the plastic trim of the gaiter there is some excess which can be trimmed off, I was able to peel the outer layer off it which suggests its not real leather. It could be bicast leather now I think about it along with the outer parts of the seats.

Headrests are plastic too. I think it is a bloody liberty. NO car manufacturer should proclaim ' Full leather interior'. When it quite clearly is not. Misrepresentation. They seem to get away with it too.

No one seems to challenge them.

How would you feel if you bought a leather suite, and found that the back was made from some plastic shyte??

Unsurprised.

In the VW Golf brochure it states that "Some parts of leather interior will contain artificial leather" but it doesn't mention this in the Octavia brochure (or at least not in the July 2009 one).

Unsurprised.

Honestly I wouldn't care - don't sit on that bit.

Very good....:D
