Fabia Alarm Problems?

Featured Replies

Hey everyone!

The past couple of days the alarm has been going off randomly on my VRs with no one near it at all! It makes no difference if I press or double press the locking button on the remote. Ive checked all of the door switches and tested/load tested the battery and it is holding a healthy 13 volts.

I would pull a fuse out and forget about it but the only fuse I can find is one for the self powered alarm ie, the alarm that works if the battery is disconnected.

Before I resort to paying a visit to my local stealer I just want to get any suggestions you guys might have!

Thanks for any responses

Bonnet switch or interior sensor.

Hello,

Got a 2005 Fabia VRS and as like you alarm going off at random.

Found out my alarm was being triggered by tailgate switch, so with tailgate open, pushed black round switch in and out with thumb a few times, NO ALARM.!! job done.

Please read FAQs re quoting.

I had that and I sprayed a load of WD40 over the switches and they have behaved since (2 years now)

Mine did that early this year. Had to have a new bonnet sensor.

check to see if the rear washer jet is leaking on the tailgate switch. Mine was doing it and in the end i had to get a new tailgate lock and sensor.

Mine was going off too, it was only when I decided to disconnect the battery to prevent the neighbours organising an ASBO that I found both battery terminals were loose. Tightened those badboys up = no ASBO.

Strangely, you can tell if you've sorted your alarm problem, if your intermittent wipe doesn't work, you haven't! Or, you'll find your hazzards don't flash when you lock it.

If you're still having problems just pitch up at your local garage and offer them a fiver to hook up their VAGCOM to your car (the plug is behind the change draw under the dial for your headlights). That'll tell you which sensor has been setting off your alarm, so you know which one to drown with WD-40 and then replace.

My Elegance alarm has a mind of it's own at the moment too! Mainly when it's raining or the other week with melting snow. There are no visible leaks has anyone ever had alarm problems due to water ingress? I've done the WD40 thing on all locks and no joy! I'm told that the VAG diagnosic computer won't be able to tell me exactly which sensor is triggering it!

Found on the net that the Fabia estate sometimes suffers with tailgate lock / alarm switch problems. Does anyone know the exact problem / issue with it?

Hello I am having the same problem with my skoda fabia 2001 estate, can anybody recommend a vag com ( reasonable ) near by ?

I am obv worried abt paying excessive costs and looking for a reasonable fix...many thanks in advance

Took my car into Dennis Horton & Sons Skoda in Lincoln today. Without any appointment they did not hesitate to take my car in and kept it for the day whilst I was at work. The alarm fault turned out to be the siren unit itself which they showed in stock. However the computer was wrong and the part was actually due to arrive tomorrow. This part is now going to be reserved for my car and will be fitted and ready tomorrow (£180 fitted). They also noted that my two day old brand new silver Bosch battery from Halfords failed a voltage drop test. Me thinks that will be going back to Halfords ASAP. Particularly when the Halfords fitter took 1 hour to try and fit it, dropping the battery clamp down then engine bay in the process. And when he finally went inside the store to get help I used his tools to finish the job myself much to his surprise when he came back out to see the bonnet down! I think Halfords need to do some staff training quick!

I've just been to my local garage because my car alarm goes off at random times of the day and night.

About a month I took it to a Skoda garage as there was lots of water in the Spare Wheel compartment - it needed a new seal around the boot - apparently a common fault in the Fabia. So I explained that this morning to local garage man thinking some wire may have rotted and was setting off the alarm.

However the mechanic noticed my boot wasn't shutting properly. When he pushed down on the boot the car locked itself automatically. So if I go over a bump the boot loosens. If the light in the boot then comes on the car alarm goes off. NOT impressed with the Skoda garage!!! The light in my boot has been taken out til the Skoda garage hopefully complete the job they started!

Try this at the Skoda dealers. What's their charge these days? £50? £60? More?
