Vauxhall VXR Range

Featured Replies

picked up the latest brochure today on the Vauxhall VXR range.

The Astra is nice and am tempted instead of an FL Octy vRS. would rather have the Insignia VXR though but not at 33k !

Anyone any experience of any VXR models?

cheers.

I quite like the range; they just seem to get beaten by the competition usually! Other marques have better all-round packages. A bit like the Astra VXR, great in a straight line...

Likewise the Insignia VXR - think I'd rather have an S4 :)

Anyway, no real experience of them, but there again - maybe there's a reason for that ;)

The Honda avatar? :D:thumbup:

The Astra VXR is quite a weapon with a full exhaust/intake mods and a intercooler and map to suite!

I've been along in one with the said mods with "4 Up" and it didn't half shift even with 305bhp.

Beefing up the brakes and suspension can really make it a track weapon.

Just having a look at some tonight :rubchin:

Astra = looks nice, bland cheap dash, seats are ok, torque steers badly

Corsa = looks nice, good interior, superb Recaro buckets as standard (like the ones in an Audi RS4), quick and surprisingly refined.

Meriva = have you had a vasectomy? If not, move on!

VXR = awesome. That is all!

:)

What Babs says - the Astra VXR torque steers badly, came as quite a shock to me. On the bright side, the dealers really, really, really struggle to shift 2nd hand ones, so it's possible to get a right bargain.

Even though i haven't driven one I do know 14 grand will get you a 3yr old Monaro because I briefly considered one before coming to my senses. 5.7 litre v8. Awesome.

Yeah, Monaro is a good idea :D

So that means the residuals are really poor, great if you pick up a 2-3 year old one, not so good if you want a new one.

But then again, lets see what the long term effect of Skoda's current VAT policy has on the second hand values, take a look at Citroen for example, they have had this policy for a while & this has a serious impact on the residuals (yeah, I know its a Citroen though).

Hmmmmm:orb_duh:

Once the VAT offer is gone, prices should creep back up.

That's whay I hope, but if the VAT offer continues to be extended, it will have a short term effect.

Was talking to a guy in the showroom today and the VAT offer is on until 31st january , lad who works with me has an astra vxr he swapped from a Seat FR and regrets it , he said he likes the vxr but not upto the quaility of the Seat

saw a re-run of top gear with the vectra vrx tested by clarkson and he was screaming "truly biblical" about its straightline performance but moaning "just awfull" when it went round corners......from what i hear the insignia is the same deal....like the looks but someone has said it already......£33k........:rofl::rofl::rofl: woteva

Performance Car tested the Insignia VXR against the Superb V6... Superb won :)

To be honest, I'd love a Corsa VXR. It's a very complete and competent package.

yeah the corsa's look good and perhaps due to less power than the bigger vrx's are more managable. The superb v6 didn't beat the vrx on straightline performance did it?

Tell me about it. I overtook one on Friday night on some epic A-roads, apparently I awoke a beast!! The little scuttler stuck to my butt like a fly on sh*te. He couldn't get past me, but I think he could have easily in different circumstances. I couldn't lose him! I don't think he was expecting the Octy to brake and handle so well on the long fast corners, but exiting a tight bend he was all over me. When I originally overtook I thought it was just another crummy shopping car! Respect to the Corsa VXR! 1.6 16v turbo with 189bhp in a car that weighs 1223kg! Must be fun! I'd still never have one though (too small and looks like a childs shoe).

Such a hoot to drive, worth it for the seats!

Rumour on the street is that they had the traction control fuses pulled out so they could make it oversteer even more!

Also If you want the Astra new, you will only be able to buy anything that is left in stock as they are now building the new shape Astra, which does not yet have a VXR version.

seen a new insignia vxr tday and it was well nice so thats my answer insignia for me lol

Personally had experience of the astra sri cdti. I no, not quite the same but previous to that I had a seat leon FR tdi. The seat was miles better, build quality, standard equipment, handling and economy. Got rid of the astra after 7 months as I hated it and lost over 3k. Residuals are terrible (but didint expect much less after such a short period to be honest). Personally I would be looking at the leon cupra or mazda mps. Driven both, and both are better than any vauxhall. All be it, the vauxhall's recaros are sweet but that wouldnt make me buy it!
