Power Steering Warning Light

Featured Replies

Hi - I wonder if anyone can shed some light on this (excuse the pun...) On any journey, usually but not always, around the 20 mile mark, the power steering warning light comes on, (usually at speed, and in a straight line) and stays on. This has no impact on the functioning of the power steering, which works fine apart from very very occasionally becoming heavy momentarily, generally at low revs. At the service, the mechanic said that the diagnostics showed a fault code referring to the sensor. He cleaned the sensor, saying that it might have been cr@p in it causing it to fail, but this has made no difference, and he has advised me to get it in for a new sensor to be fitted. So - a couple of questions before I go back to see him:- -Is this the likely cause of the problem? If not, what else might it be? -If so, how easy is this as a home /diy job? -And where would anyone recommend I shop for the sensor? Many thanks!

Duh - Oh yeah. In my haste to post (had some trouble logging in since the "great crash") I must've overlooked the bleedin' obvious.

Great, I'm not alone and it looks like the mechanic was right. (Not surprisingly - it is his job...)

Righto, I'll look into doing it myself perhaps.

Cheers!

Ohhh, this forum is great. Just wish a few others I'm subscribed to were as comprehensive. Now, having found the relevant "How to", read it, taken a big breath and decided to do the job myself, where best to get hold of the replacement part without paying through the nose?

Cheers for that Simbo. They do state "100% trade focus" So I might struggle to get 'em to do business but I'll give them a try tomorrow.
