Electrical Issues - Fabia Comfort TDI

Featured Replies

HiWe have owned a '51' plate Fabia 1.9TDI 100PD Comfort hatch since July as a second car for my wife, and have had a few 'niggles' since ownership, however we now appear to have yet another! My wife has had issues with trying to open the boot on occasions, however this is becoming more frequent, where the boot will not open with the electric release on the tailgate. I haved also noticed that if the rear door is subsequently opened, the electric release button will then operate. In addition to this, I have also noticed that when the car has been unlocked, and the drivers door has been opened and then closed, the car will lock automatically, as if the door has not been opened at all (as my Octavia does). Also, I have noticed that the interior light no longer operates when the drivers door is opened, nor does the red 'puddle lights' work.I have a feeling that these faults are all related. Could anyone shed any light on these faults and give me an idea of what could be causing it? I must say that our experience of Fabia ownership so far is not great - not like my Octavia which has done twice the mileage without any faults we are experiencing with the Fabia!!Any help/advise greatly received!!Dan

Hmmm, the randomness of it points me toward a dodgy central convenience ecu - that controls much of what you descibe - central locking, etc. Not sure what else to suggest.

The unlock, open door and relock thing should only operate on the boot so somehow it's thinking the door is a boot. Very odd.

Hi

We have owned a '51' plate Fabia 1.9TDI 100PD Comfort hatch since July as a second car for my wife, and have had a few 'niggles' since ownership, however we now appear to have yet another!

In addition to this, I have also noticed that when the car has been unlocked, and the drivers door has been opened and then closed, the car will lock automatically, as if the door has not been opened at all (as my Octavia does). I would suggest the mircoswitch in the drivers door that tells the car if the door is open or not is at fault based on what you said.

This ties in with the boot thing as I think it requires a door to be opened before it will unlock, so if you get out of the drivers door, and the car doesn't know it's been opened, the boot will stay locked. Thus opening passenger doors unlocks the boot.

Assuming the interior/puddle lights work of the passenger door I reckon it's a good bet its the door open sender/mircoswitch.

Thanks - where do I find the microswitch? Is it easy to replace and more importantly, is it expensive!!!!

I have a feeling its an integral part of the door latch, so a good few quid at a guess.

Worth getting the car scanned with VCDS or similar to diagnose the fault before shelling out £££. There must be a member near you willing to help :)

I suspect this is the F220 module (drivers door lock module, with motor and switches). Get it scanned first to check though. They cost upwards of £90 IIRC. Bit awkward to fit, too!

Thanks for the replies

I did have it scanned last week and have just replaced the MAF (£60) as was not upto standard (however does not appeared to have made any difference to performance or economy since replacement) but did not pick up any other faults on VCDS other than the V68 flap motor which I know about, which also needs replacing!!

I will get it rechecked though before shelling out even MORE money on this car! Proving to be a bit of a 'dog'......

Since July, I have had to replace:

Console bushes (replaced with Cupra R solids) @ £125

Pair of front tyres @ £95 (replaced due to premature wear 'cause of worn console bushes)

MAF @ £60

In addition, need to replace V68 flap motor approx £80 for part plus labour (a dog of a job DIY I understand) and now the Door Module at approx £90+ plus labour!!!

I must say the failure rate of electronic components on these cars seems to be exceptionally poor!!

Rant over!!! Thanks for your help!!

Dan
