rear window condensation

Featured Replies

The condensation hasn't cleared from my rear window much, so I took a cloth to it. When I got inside I noticed it misting again, so at the next stop I tried again but noticed it misting almost immediately with the hatchback open. I think there's something on the inner coating which is causing the misting. I can feel the profile of heating elements so I'm wondering if the inner surface is a plastic laminate, rather than glass. Whatever it is I think some surface 'product' will be necessary to prevent misting in the current weather.

I've noticed that mine is subject to misting too. Might be due to the large area of glass perhaps? I thought it could be that my boot seal was leaking again (worth checking spare wheel well for water) but everything is dry.

Run the air con on a warm setting, and once its clear, turn it off,but keeping the temp at around 18 to 22 then open your drivers window half an inch whilst driving this keeps it clear

opening the window acts as a chimney

Heating elements are printed on glass and aways stand proud on a HRW.Vulnerable to damage though. Vinegar in warm water or proprietary glass cleaner, used gently, will remove any unwanted film from glass. Yeah mine is misting up as well. Possibly due to the water that pours into the boot every time I open the hatch. Soon clears with the aircon and HRW for a couple of minutes.

I had everything on for a full 30 minute journey and it was still misted.

It's probably the same method as used on some glass bottles. AFAIK it's a re-firing but not sufficient to re-melt the glass, just enough to fuse the pattern into the glass. It may be the 'product' the valeters used on the initial spruce-up which is causing the misting to persist. I'm getting misting inside the headlights too. So far it's just the sides and bottom edge.

mmm ... We're talking about the rear screen, not the side windows, yes? Mine clears in a few minutes once the rear heated window is on. I have the aircon on all the time and temperature around 18-22c and give it a quick blast to clear the windscreen, by which time the rear is showing signs of demisting. I did have the car Autoglym'd, which might include some sort of glass treatment (I can't remember!) but seriously, if mine was taking so long to clear I'd be back at the dealer. I don't think your Octy is much older than mine is it (collected mine 14th Nov)?

it's not the rear washer pipe come apart is it? If so, it will be wet nearside of boot behind carpet, and in the spare wheel tray.mike

Mine mists up too very quickly but no boot leaks or anything else.Clears with the HRW on and air con.I keep my car garaged so as soon as it hits the outside air it instantly mists inside.

As the temperature drops most of us that normally use the A/C will notice this. The A/C will not operate below a certain outdoor ambient temperature so the car just turns it off (without giving the driver any indication), this is in the manual and I cannot remember the exact temperature it does it at (I am sure someone will have the manual to hand to find out). As the A/C is off the car will mist up quickly and be much harder to clear the screens.

I should imagine that is why you are seeing this, the same reason my windows misted up on a cold morning the other day.

Does that help any?
