VRS? .. yeah, whatever.

Featured Replies

I know you guys are all keen on VRS(es). But I thought I'd just take the opportunity to say how pleased I am with my lowly 1.4 TSI!

This evening was .. well, it was wet! But (and even with the basic 15in Michelins that come as standard) the ride and handling felt secure (I guess the MSR / ASR comes into play here).

I even felt comfortable enough to overtake at one point and unlike the 3rd gear scramble for torque of my old Toyota (well, it did have 30% less power) it was just a matter of putting some pressure on the accelerator and allowing the beast to respond.Yeah, I know there's 10 years more technology around me than my old car. Plus that nifty 122 bhp engine. Nothing like a VRS, I'm sure. But I'm still impressed. You know what? Skoda really did make me a happy driver!

Nice car, Tom - and a fantastic sig :)

VW sure know how to make a good engine thats for sure

Nice car Tom - looks like you went for the SE trim (same as me), a great balance of features and value :)

Nice.

But bet you'd like the 1.8TSI more ;)

Yes, by the time we'd added in the alarm/central locking and split rear seat that we wanted then it didn't take much to see the sense in paying a bit more and getting the Bolero multiplayer, extra electric windows and the more adjustable front seats. And I do like the alloys much more than the bog standard steel wheels.

Nice.

Sure, but I'd originally been looking at something like a secondhand Focus! I'm happy enough to have got a brand new car pretty much within my budget. Though I am kinda thinking that for the next car ... ;)

Same here Tom - I originally went shopping for a 3 year old car, but with the second hand prices so high, and having a 15 year old banger I could scrap, I walked away having signed for a new one :D

I wonder what sort of mpg you'll get from that 1.4 TSI? I was tempted but ended up going for the frugal diesel instead.

It even works uphill. Mine will accelerate uphill from 50mph in 5th gear. My previous car (admittedly only 80bhp) needed a drop to 3rd gear to not slow down on the same hill.

Nice car, like the colour ;-) Have fun with it...

Pretty sure it can't match the MPG of the TDIs....I had an 1,8 TSI for two days when mine was in service and I found that it swallows just as much as any other petrol engine if you drive it *TDI-style* - so these TSIs at least for me still are no alternative at all....

Yup. Nobody was going to offer me anything close to the scrappage so it made a new car a possibility. As for mpg I haven't checked really but I'd guess at the moment it's clost to the published urban figure. We have a lot of roundabouts here so it's constant acceleration, deceleration driving. The one trip on the motorway it was amusing to see the estimated milage to the next refuelling go UP by 25 miles!

Indeed! It seems to have power across the whole range. My old car 5th was strictly for cruising; no acceleration to speak of at all. But now ... I've had to set the 'pinger' to tell me I'm driving too fast!

Looks nice! But 15's?!
