Stealth install....possible??

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I have a Fabia VRS and wanted to know something, so if you can help it would be appreciated.

Basically, i want to upgrade the soundsystem in the car. I already have a Kenwood MP6090R (took it out of my old car), which isnt the best in the world, but it certainly isnt bad, so that can go in for starters.

Where i am stuck, is that i want to upgrade all the speakers, but need components for the front that will fit both the bass/mid and tweeter standard locations. I dont want anything to look changed at all in that regard, just for it to look standard.

Lastly, a recomendation of some rear speakers would be great. Should i use components and locate the tweeters in the rear doors as per standard, or buy Coaxials and disconnect the tweeters?

Thanks for any help you can provide!!

-Rich

Have you tried a search, its a subject covered quite alot.

Might be worth mentioning that i already have a pair of 6.5" JBL GTO625E's from my last setup that sound ok. Wise or unwise to use these and leave the front tweeters in?

As i thought, TFboy hasnt replaced the standard tweeter locations, well they are in the same place, but i want to actually remove the plastic speaker cover from the door, and put a tweeter inside there, truly replacing the standard ones. If this is not possible i will stick to coaxials i think.

Cheers.

Why should any of this be impossible? It's totally possible in the Octavia. If you replace what's already in the car with quality components then that's better for you and who's ever going to prise of the covers and say your warranty is invalid?

It is possible to get tweeters behind the std covers, its just Xaviers are to big to do that, plus he wanted to move them about to get the best sound. But that all depends on your tweeters.

I gave you the hint so you would have a guide of how to strip it down.

This isnt about Warranty Rich, its about the system looking standard from a security point of view and because i like a clean looking system. I dont like that people hang tweeters off dashboards and doors, i dont think it looks great, although without doubt it would sound superior in every way to standard locations.

I guess what i was after, is if anybody *knows* which components fit perfectly, before i have to go out and start ripping parts of my door away, or maybe even the standard tweeter sizes. Thats all.

Ah. Apologies. Got the wrong end of the stick. Again.

No probs :D

All input is welcome!

My thinking behind the above is basically if somebody see;s the tweeters in my car, they will think "hey this guy looks to have spent some money on his system" and then start trying to break into the car. While the area in which i live is nice, it is a magnet for thieving blighters and i want to minimize risk :)

Ta for that. Ill try and fine the details of the original fab tweeters so i can get sizes for replacements. TY.

How long is it before you want to fit the equipment mate?

Im going to fit my Focal components within the next few weeks, can let you know how I get on and take a few pics if you like?

That would be excellent mate, thanks ! :) Im sure i wont be the only one who would like to see the setup

It will probably be before christmas, but not by much, so maybe back end of december time. My credit card may beat me into submission before then however, it usually does

The alternatives at this moment in time are looking like Boston Acoustics NX57's in the front, as they are very shallow (54.5mm) but with good output and nice SQ. Possibly some smaller COAX bostons in the back too if they sound as nice as the bigger stuff does.

My system should be

Focal 165a components up front (120w max)

12" JL Audio Sub in ported box

Genesis Profile Four amp

Plenty of Dynamat in front doors

Simple but should work nicely with any luck. The boot build starts tomorrow.

Good luck with it. Dont wake your neighbours up too early with the sound of thunderous bass :p

Someone called? :D

OK, what Ross said was correct. (you actually listen to all my dribble? :o )

Originally, I had the tweets and mids in the OE speaker locations, by the door mirror and in the door card.

The tweeters I got were the same size as the OE ones, but because of their border, would not fit behind the grilled plastic, hence the drilling to get the wires through (still need to replace them  )

You can get 13.5 - 16.5 midbass drivers to fit in the OE locations by the door, but beware of the speaker depth - the window guide rail is right smack in the middle of the "hole" so you need to build baffles / spacers if they are to fit.

Eventually, as Ross said, I relocated the midbass in the footwell, building fibreglass pods. Tweeters are now in the corners, on the dash help in by bluetak (again, must sort that one out :D)

If you need any advice, feel free to ask me. It may save you a lot of butchering ;)

I guess you found my posts, but in case you haven't, here is the one changing speakers over inside the doors (what you're thinking of doing).

Here's the new setup with the kickbuilds

If you ever go down the sub box in the boot and want to put amps in with false floor, have a look at this thread

Finally, there was a lot of confusion as to what is the midbass speaker size in the door. This post attempts to explain it.

HTH :)

Ross, go for Polyglass - much better in my opinion !!!

Will Polyglass speakers fit int he Fabia doors, whats the mounting depth?

And of course how much?
