How to wipe a laptop

Featured Replies

Hello all,

I have a slight issue here. I have sold my Acer 7730 and want to wipe it but leave Vista on it.

Problem: I lost the stupid factory re-set disk!

The question I have is - Is it possible to wipe the HDD and leave Vista on it for the new user?

Many thanks,

Rob.

unfortunat;y its not possible, but you should be able to do a factory reset without the DVD. Vista laptops typically have a recovery partition rather than physical media to recover back to a factory state.

Not easily. You could delete your documents and user profile, then write a lot of stuff to the disk, delete it, and defrag, but there's a chance of leaving stuff behind.

PC World do it for £30.

That's the problem.

Is it possible to download the factory settings and create a disk that way?

As long as you have the CD/DVD key you should be able to use any Vista CD/DVD, so if you know anyone with a Vista CD/DVD you can borrow for about 4hrs, it should be fine.
