Flashing Amber Oil Light

Featured Replies

Hi folks.

2004 Mk1 Octavia vRS has just started with a "flashing" amber oil light.

I dont seem to have the owners manual, and cant find any info on it.

I know the following..

Solid Red = Oil Pressure

Solid Amber = Oil Level

but i cant find anything on the flashing amber.

Only comes on for 3-4 flashes when you start the car, and never re-appears until next restart.

Oil level is fine on the car too.

Any pointers ?

Thankyou

You can download a PDF of the manual by following DGWs sticky at the top of this forum:

Manual

Looking through it, it appears that when the amber light is flashing that there is a problem with the oil level sensor, page 32.

Thankyou Very Much. :)

Next question is....is this common ?

Expensive ?

The missus' Leon does this.

Every really cold morning, we get a flashing oil light. Let the car warm up, turn the car off/on, and it sorts goes away.

Apparently those sensors are dodgy, and quite a few VAG cars have issues with them. The garage told us to ignore it, or pay for a replacement (i seem to recall fitted it was £150ish), which may cure the problem.
