Arrggh! De-icing INSIDE the car...

Featured Replies

Jeez, I thought I'd left behind the days of de-icing inside the bloody car after my first little Citroen AX! But alas the VRS had condensation on the front and rear screens which had iced over. Pretty sure my rear doors are not leaky, but have noticed condensation every now and then inside, from what I gather on here a common skoda issue.

But what can be done to minimise this? My screen was quite dirty which will make condensation worse - what is the absolute best way of cleaning interior glass?? Also would one of those cupboard de-humidifers be worth trying on cold nights so condensation that may ice-up be minimised?

Until then I guess it's waking up ten minutes early (or being ten minutes late :smirk: )

I don't know if this is comparable, but the MX5 I am using at the moment was awful for condensation on the inside of the screen. Seemed to have some kind of film on it which just wouldn't shift. In the end, I gave it a thorough clean up with Autoglym glass polish and since then have not had any issues with it. It seems as long as the glass is clean, it resists moisture better and therefore won't mist up/freeze as quickly or easily.

Mind you, the weather has been a kind of "dry cold" since I did the glass on the MX5, but I am sure it has helped a lot.

Might be worth trying to get some of the hot moist air out of the car before closing for the night - blower full on screen, windows open for the last minute.

Mine only did this when the rear doors started leaking. It might be worth checking them again - it isn't always obvious to start with as the water runs down under the carpet. It's only when the soundproofing is saturated that the water starts to soak up through the carpet.

Anyone else got any ideas on this?

It's really frustrating having to deice inside and out every morning!

A clean screen will not attract moister like a dirty one, simples :)

My windscreen had a thin layer of ice on the inside when I went out earlier and I thought WTF ??

Viewer is right, before parking up for the night let all the hot air out as when I had been out in the car earlier alot of hot air would have been trapped inside causing the windscreen to ice up.
