Clutch Pedal Vibration

Featured Replies

I have a 2008 2.0 Diesel Octavia Estate which has covered 11000 miles. I have noticed that I can feel a vibration through the clutch pedal when it is depressed an inch or two. If I lightly touch the pedal there is nothing, and after its biting point there is nothing, but in between there is a noticeable vibration that is related to engine speed.

When driving it is not that noticeable as you pass through this point fairly quickly.

I can only assume that the thrust bearing is being pushed in and out and this motion is being fed al the way back through the hydraulics to the pedal.

On my other cat (Hyundai Getz Petrol), there is no vibration at all.

I also have an issue with what feels like the clutch juddering as I move off in first gear, but only for the first few miles each morning. I'm wondering if the two issues are related.

Can other 2.0 diesel owners tell me whether they can feel a vibration in their pedals?

This sounds the same as my car, and i've had this happen since i got the car at 117k and now its fastly aproaching 140k.

I started a seperate thread about the clutch judder from cold, which soon goes away once its warmed up a little. It seems as though theres a few people experiencing what you and I are.

It's normal. If you push the pedal down to the floor (which you should realy do anyway when chaging gear) the vibration disappears.

Mine's brand spanking new and does it so I hope it's normal!

Thanks for the replies. I think I feel more comfortable with it, and it sounds like it is 'normal' behaviour, although I suppose it could be classified as a common fault!

I have never felt the vibration in the pedal in any other car.

I'd really like to hear from someone who has had a Dual Mass Flywheel replaced with a single Mass Flywheel, to see if their vibration is still present.

Mine does that too, told skoda when it was serviced in december told it was ok.

And its got 39,000 miles on it and its a 2007 TDI Vrs.

Mine does the same, clutch judder the first few times I pull away in the morning, my old 1.9 never did it and I am sure its not normal behaviour, getting it fixed is difficult as its gone by the time I get to the dealer.

Mine only does it if you put the clutch in an inch or so - not enough to be able to change gear, just enough to first meet a different feel of resistance. But as soon as I push the clutch in any further the vibration stops.

125,000+ (ish) miles on the clock. It has always done it since I have owned it, I assumed it was normal.

That sounds exactly the same as mine. Perhaps I'm a born worrier.

I say relax and enjoy a great car emoticon-0100-smile.gif

The pulsing clutch pedal was a concern when I first bought my '06 1.9PD but I quickly found it to be a characteristic of the hydraulic clutch and there is a hydraulic component you can replace which will address the issue, I think one of the previous posters mentions it (modulator).

As to the juddering, open the bonnet and have a sniff between the battery and left side of the engine, maybe best done when the engine is hot.

I had a juddering clutch and the cause was a leaking diesel hose from the tandem pump, diesel was seeping and fouling the clutch.

If you smell diesel you've got a leak, the hose in question is approximately 3" long and a replacement piece of hose and two small hose clamps are all that's needed to cure the problem.
