Starting problems after this cold snap

Featured Replies

Car was garaged last Thursday before the cold snap. Tried to start it Saturday 18.00 and it wouldn't turn over. The solenoid would click, the glowplug light went off, but it wouldn't start.

Left it for five minutes, tried again and it started first time!

Not the battery. I reckon it's the starter motor sticking.

Any ideas and possible solutions? I don't want it give up over Xmas.

I had the same problem a few weeks ago - it WAS the Battery giving up. How old is the car/battery - mine was 4yrs. Another clue was the lights inc instruments went low when trying to start?

About 4 years old as well.

I don't recall the lights dimming and it started first time this morning. It manages to turn over the engine quite quickly.

You were right it was the battery.

Anyone know where's thebest place to get a replacement?

Don't know about the best place to buy one but get the best battery you can afford,

Don't buy the cheapest you can get as I found out to my expense you are just throwing your money away, We bought a cheap battery for the wifes 306, it lasted 8 months before starting to fail, I had a Peugeot speciallist and an AA man tell me the battery was crap so took it back to where I bought it but because it unsurprisingly tested out OK they refused to refund me as the beleived it was OK, £45 lost there!, After much reading on this forum I decided to get a Varta battery for her car, Personally I would recommend this battery make to anyone as it's been brilliant on her car (touch wood) even in this cold weather, It cost £70ish for her car, well worth the extra money, some say that Halfords batteries are OK but a tad expensive, just ring around your local motor factors, if their any good they should have Varta batteries, and go for the best deal you can get
