Does it not have an econ button?

Welcome :)

Yeah it does, can u explain exactly what that does, my heads sore from the manual lol, a few other questions aswell, does the a/c automatically come on? can this be turned off as it eats into the fule consumption?

I think mine used to stay as it was set, but kept it on auto most of the time

and never found it made much difference to the fuel consumption TBH.

You can turn it on by pressing most of the buttons, and off by pressing the reduce fan speed button until the screen goes blank. Whilst on, the auto button gives you full climate control, econ just operates the blowers - the temperature and fan buttons have the same effect in each mode, although the results will vary. If you hit the windscreen button for fast demisting, the auto/econ indicator will disappear but I think it runs in whichever mode it was in previously. The impact on the fuel economy is minimal in auto mode & nonexistant in econ mode, but it's certainly worth using auto and taking the hit for the sake of clear windows :)

The difference between a normal heater + air con system and climate control is that climate control will maintain the car at the temperature you have set and, in addition, controls the floor, vent and screen temperatures independently. There are two modes - AUTO is exactly what it says and uses the air con to reduce temperature and control humidity (useful on a wet day to remove misting on windows).

ECON also controls the temperature to the set value but only within the range of the heater and incoming air temperature and cannot control humidity.

During the winter I leave mine on ECON but occasionally switch to AUTO to stir up the air con fluid. Air con does not work below 5ºC.

In warm or humid weather I leave mine on AUTO.

My experience is that AUTO increases fuel consumption by 3mpg in summer if working hard and zero if the air-con is only being used lightly by the AUTO system.

Air con does not work below 5ºC.

I find it makes a hell of a difference with demisting, even at current temperatures - my windows start to fog within a few minutes on econ, but you can see the mist shrinking back if you switch to auto.

Select Auto,set temp to 20/21 degrees,job done.

+1

The whole point of the Climate Control is that you don't have to @rse about with it.

Set it, forget it!

If you want a finer control of the cabin temp (which only has 1 degree steps) you can change to Fahrenheit mode by pressing both AUTO and ECON buttons together. Then you can control the air temp in 1 deg F steps, about twice the control you have with Centigrade. BTW they fixed this on the Mk2 Octavia giving you half degree centigrade steps.
