Snow Foam Question (Salt Removal & Wax Safe?)

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

Now they've started gritting the roads, my car has a nice layer of salt around the bottom half of it. As it looks a little on the hard & gritty side, I'm wary of going over it with a mitt in the normal manner, lest I put a load of scratches into the paint. I have seen a few people using snow foam as a part of their washing process, and I was thinking about trying that to remove, or at least soften, the worst of it. However, I have read a few times that various snow foam products will eat wax.

So, am I right in thinking that snow foam will help remove the salt safely? And can anyone recommend a snow foam that's wax-safe? I was thinking about Megs Hyper Wash as it seems it'd last for ages given its dilution ratio (and Megs stuff is normally OK).

I'd need to get a Super Spray too (I would get a pressure washer, but I have no-where to store it), so if CleanYourCar stock it, that'd be rather convenient for me.

Thanks for any help :)

Bilt Hamber Auto Foam

Superb stuff and doesnt strip wax

Not used this product before but if Chris says it's good I would go for it, I know for a fact that the Bilt Hamber products are great value for money, I am using the following instead of Megs APC at the moment as you get more for your money:

Ooh ... thanks Chris :)

I''ve been using both BH Auto Foam and Surfex HD for a while now, awesome value for money.

Tend to use the Surfex HD (diluted of course) on my wheels. Works wonders. :)

Thanks for the input guys - have a good Christmas all! :)

I like the Bilt Hamber stuff, their Auto Wash is great too - ultra concentrated, so it goes a long way... useful at this time of year :)

Might well pick up these two products as well, as could do with some more foam and also have just run out of APC.... result

Cheers,

Steve

I don't think I will buy Megs APC again now mate, get more for your money with the BH product and it's just as good IMHO...........:)

Definately worth a punt Steve.

I try to stick to most of their stuff. I use their Clay too.

Only thing i've not tried is the Auto Balm lol.

Invested in some of that a couple of weeks ago but not had a chance to give it a whirl.............:(

BH Autofoam is great and will take the salt off.

I'll be giving the car a foam and then dry the glass before the Christmas period.

Have their clay (both types) but not had chance to use them yet. Got good reviews and being able to use water instead of QD is a major bonus in my mind.

Looks like I'll be increasing my BH stock then :D

Cheers,

Steve

Yeah, i loved just being able to use water with the (hard) clay.

Got some good results when i had the Fabia using it.

Buy from them direct is cheapest i've found, and usually 2 days delivery.

So its ok to use APC as a pre wash foam solution mix?? If so how much in the litre HD lance bottle.

Its just i think tomorrow will be the first real day (without snow or ice causing probs) that i'll be able to get out to give the car a good wash, and thought that i might need something a little stronger than just the snow foam in the HD lance to help clear away road salts/ road film, grime etc before 2BM wash...

I'd be grateful for a reply tonight if poss :)

Sorry mate, only just got on here...................

I usually add a little HD Surfex into the Snow Foam mix when detailing a motor but find that I don't really need it on mine as I have enough protection on there that the dirt mostly blasts off to be honest................

Might be a little late but add some APC and see what results you get, I am confident you will want to add APC in the future................

Bit of a late reply from me also, but if mine is very manky, and i choose to use a little APC in the foam mix, i normally put in about 1/2 inch Surfex, to 4 inches of Autofoam.

Thats if it's really ingrained, otherwise the autofoam usually does the trick on it's own.

its ok... as it turned out something else has gotten in the way this morning anyway arggg

my concern was about it stripping wax... i presume APC will do this, and that LSP needs laying down again :S

and yeah it is pretty minging atm... what with the snow we've had here for the last week or so, and the slush/ gritt splatterd up the side whilst parked up :'(

oh and i would say thank you... but i cant seem to find it on this new site

did just that today  and yes i was very pleased... the combo of snow foam, a little APC and a touch of poorboys shampoo did wonders for sliding off a lot of the road grime ive picked up this last couple weeks... so yes i shall use again, if i believe it requires it...

usually i try not to leave it any longer than a week between washes, but this weather lately combined with not having anywhere off road as yet to do it is a tricky combo :(

dried down with LT, and then went around with a fresh fluffy MF and wiped down a second time with LT... and tonight i have extra tight tiny beads after the rain has started... proof i hope that the Colli 476/ dodo blue velvet combo is still hard at work

Good to hear. :)

Mine is filthy, but frozen hose pipes makes for no washing lol.
