Rain Brake System gives humming - vibrations and rattling

Featured Replies

RBS - do you also have problems with wipers ON?

My OCTYII 2.0PD from December has got a rattling noise from the fuse box area (near drivers left knee). Steering wheel left side of the car. A humming noise occurs and vibrations in the floor and in the pedals (left side of the car). This is only happening when the front screen wiper ON and driving more than 70 km/h for more than 3 km. When these conditions all are present at the same time, the fault occurs.

My OCTYII 2.0PD from December 2007 has got the ABS/ESP controller with the Rain Brake System –RBS. The system wipes the front brake discs free of water and dirt, making instant braking ready, when needed. ABS controller gets input about speed and a signal informing about front screen wipers ON. When driving more than 70km/h, the ABS controller activates the front brakes slightly (0,02MPa). The brake pads touch the brake disk for 3 seconds, cleaning the water and dirt of the disk. The system re-activates after 3 km.

According to Skoda Training manual, The RBS system is active, without the driver noticing.....

I have had this problem since I purchased the car in January 2008, and I have been at the repair shop complaining MANY times. They tell me that it is a feature, and that it is normal. I had another OCTYII (November 2007 – December 2007), and it did NOT have this feature.

I regularly drive rented OCTYII and they do not have this noise, humming and vibrations, when the RBS system is active.

I am aware of the car is supposed to clean the brake discs – however, I do not think it is intended to make such a fuss about it.

I am searching for other OCTYII owners having this feature – or fault.
