sat nav mk1

i am looking to get a sat nav head unit put into my mk1 octy and have been told it is the mfd 1 which i need, is this true? also, i have bben told that to set these up right is alot of work and a pain in the ar*e and if this is correct can any recommend a retrofit that doesnt use the cd changer in the boot or will at least let you change the cd from the head unit and will play dvds and is easy to update the sat nav maps.also if it has ipod mp3 connections.thanks
