New Car Stereo set up

Featured Replies

HI all, I had to get rid of my fabia vrs and got a mk3 golf, the stereo is not up to much so I am going to upgrade. I need front and back door components, new head unit and a sub. I am going to wire it all myself, but I need help on the rest of it. What is a good make but mid range price, I was looking at fusion or pioneer. Has anyone got any thoughts

Just a few random thoughts....................my own preference for a head unit would be Alpine which are good value and top quality.

Aim for a h/u with MP3 connectivity if you use an Ipod and you can dispense with an auto-changer.

Save some money and improve the quality of your sound stage by dispensing with the rear speakers - they are not needed.

You don't mention amps. My suggestion would be to go for a retro amp. which, if in good condition, beats the modern stuff hands down.

SoundStream, Rockford Fosgate and Genesis are but three; there are others.

Don't forget to fit an in-line fuse as close to the battery as possible.

And to get the most out of your new front door speakers use Dynamat sound deadening inside the doors.

Good luck with the install.

Alpine make good stuff. Had them in my cars for years now.

I'd say cheap alpine head unit. For components I like my spl dynamics 6.2. But don't forget to sound deaden and to fit them well with mel baffles. For sou d deadening I use bodyline as it's really cheap. Amps I like my alpines but also look at genesis and dls. I'd concentrAte on spending the most on front components than anything else.

for sound proofing go for something like brown bread which is better than dynamat extreme.

definately go for components at the front rather than coaxials, u won't hear much sound from the back but for some rear fill you can put whatever u want in the back.

forget fusion, jbl, pioneer, audiobahn, etc if u're into hi fi quality sound.

for quality u wont go wrong with focal (even the bottom of the range), polk audio, rainbow, JL or the high end alpine.

if you're on a budget JL have released the new J2 range which looks good.

don't forget on some decent quality cabling
