Sticky door lock

Featured Replies

My drivers door lock failed to spring back to the central position quite a while ago but decided to just put up with it but now it is getting more difficult to return the key to the central position by hand. I did put it down to the cold weather but now it's warmed up a bit the problem persists. Is it time for a new lock or is there, I hope, a simple or cheap fix?

Hi andy

I would not normally suggest this but have you tried WD40? If its as bad as you say, it will either mend or totally break it.

but if you was to replace it you would poss end up with a diffrent key, but why don't you strip it down and see what is causing

the problem?

Ps I have still not got hold of that other guy !

Given it a squirt of WD40 and will see what it is like in the morning. Is the passenger lock barrel and drivers side barrel interchangable? I don't use the passenger one so there must be loads of life left in that barrel.

Just found this, Lock repair kit. Would it do the trick?

That normally does the trick, there are two part numbers for lock repair kits and you'll be surprised to learn that both of them will come to less than £5 from a dealer. The part numbers are:

1U0898001 & 1U0898002.

These part numbers should be common to VW and I suspect Audi.
