boostgauge

Featured Replies

hi all hope every one had a good xmas, i had a boost gauge for xmasan i wiered it up to the light , does anyone no hoe to connect the small vac pipe coming from the boost gauge to a part of the boost pipe on my fabia vrs ?

You need to drill and tap the boost pipe, and screw in a suitable take off adapter. Make sure the gauge you got has a big enough range, most gauges are not suitable for the VRS

the gauge goes to 30psi, what part of the boost pipe because mine is plastic running to the egr, what psi do a vrs usually run? thanks

30PSI Gauge is fine. Tap into the plastic boos pipe that runs along the side of the timing belt cover. Screw in the adapter take off piece, and epoxy around it to prevent it flying out. There are a couple of examples on here somewhere with pictures.

They normally hold at around 19-20 psi

You will have to tap into the plastic at the top of the boost pipe nearest the EGR and make sure you take off the pipe to avaoid any shards of plastic getting into the system.

If you have a engine cover, drill into the side of the pipe as you might not be able to get the cover to sit right and use something like this Male Tapered Hosetail

Also make sure that you have a tight seal and enough hose before drilling

or use something like this http://www.merlinmotorsport.co.uk/SAMCO-HOSE-&-KITS-Self-Sealing-Take-Off%27s/c16_2661/index.html

thanks to all your help i have fitted it an my boost is going pased 30 psi also a rattle noise from the gauge, do anyone think the gauge is faulty

1: The gauge is over reading, or you have excessive boost. (Sticking VNT can cause over boost, but car will usually protect itself by going into limp more.)

2: Rattle is common, depends what diameter tubing you used. Ideally you want the very small diameter capillary tubing, as used for oil pressure gauges.

I would definitely get the boost checked with a known accurate gauge or VAGCOM.

Defo sounds like the gauge is over reading then, unless your map is providing a hell of a lot of extra boost.
