Wheel noise

Featured Replies

Just got me a second hand Octavia 2007 model, 4X4 diesel. This replaces my old 2001 Octavia 4x4, and I am surprised how much noise the new car generates from the wheels. The noise is acceptable at lower speeds, but between 80 - 95 km/t the noise is making it almost unbearable.

Before contacting the dealer, i would aprechiate any comments on this matter, if you have a suggestion to what to check.

I'm driving my winter tyres (non "stubbed") - they are new and I wuld expect them to be balanced.

Hi Rolf, Check the wheel bearings my brother in law has a 2007 passat and was plagued with front wheel bearing noise perhaps a bad batch of vag brgs around that year.

It could just be the brand of tyres fitted, as different tread patterns and rubber compounds generate different levels of noise. I have just changed all 4 tyres on my car, and the cheapo new tyres are much quieter at speed than the ones that went before.

Check the back tyres for sawtooth wear on the tread blocks.

UPDATE:

Had the car check at the shop today. The mecanic diagnosed the noise to be a defective/worn wheelbearing. Bokk time for replacement nest week, and hope the noise will be gone by then.
