Door LED always on...

Featured Replies

Well, as the title states, my LEd in the door for the alarm is now constantly on, even when driving, so have searched the forum and come up with this:-

Check the drivers door LED. If this stays on constantly while the car is running, then the central convenience unit has logged a fault. My guess is that water has made it's way into the loom connector at the electric window motor.

So my question is how can I reset/clear the fault? Is it a case of stripping the door to check for water, and dry everything and it will reset automatically, or does it need connecting up to clear the fault?

you need to strip the door to get to the lower plug (it makes a nice bowl shape to collect the water, how thoughtful of VAG) remove the plug and if none of the pins are snapped give them a clean with emery, sand paper or wire brush etc also if you have a very fine needle file get rid of any corrosion on the plug as well. When reassembling make sure to give it a good coat of the non conductive grease from maplins. The area to cover is the seal between the lower unit and the window motor.

Ok, thanks for the info - sounds like a weekend job then, when there is some light, damn I hate these dark nights!!!!

I had to do the micro switch in the lock and the lower plug thingy, it was -3C. You may need to get any codes cleared though, should be someone near you with VAGCOM that can help for beer tokens :D there is a sticky on the diagnostics forum with a list of users and locations

My windows just wound themselves down all together in the snow - same as last year....problem was as described water in convenience unit.

Replaced (£180 from SKoda) unit as pin had snapped off. Have just put car in gge to do it all again in a mo.

Does anyone know where the door dismantling thread for this went (it was on here at Christmas last year???? - I used it successfully).

Sorry - I should have said the Red door LED being on constantly is another symptom of the Door Control UNit problems many of us have....

Well, I stripped down the door today, and when I pulled the plug on the locking module, lots of water come out....

So dryed it all with a hair dryer, put it back to together and sealed it up using a lot of grease.

And jobs a good one - no more LED constantly on - its now doing what it should be - flashing and then staying off when driving.

So just a big thanks to the guys above who pointed me in the write direction to put this write and save a fortune from taking it to a stealer....THANKS :-)
