Featured Replies

well thinking i not so keen on my skoda fabi estate tdi .

first of wheel bearing had to be changed both sides car has done 184000 miles but wheel bearing`s where replaced at 178000 , then abs sensor packed in and had to have new wheel bearing !! , brakes which are new (disk`s and pads ) alround about 6000 miles wont stop squeeling and hand brake works when it feel`s like it .. had the comon wiper fuse prob when the snow fell , and drivers window refuses to work at moment  .. but to finaly put the boot in engine cut out half way across t juction car would not start just spun ,so to move it i put it in second gear and turn`d it on started it did start and get me home and sat ticking over nice when i turn`d it of wouldnt start again , well mot up end of month so guess i maybe getting somthing else very soon

To be fair it has done a lot of mileage! If I had a car of that mileage I would be pleased it had got that far lol!

My brakes squeel a bit on my Octavia after the brakes were changed. I took it back to the garage, still no better. I took it to another garage, and guess what, two weeks later same problem. My solution is to turn the stereo up a bit louder now! :giggle: Luckily it only does it at low speeds.

To be fair 184000 is quite high mileage for any car (even a VAG)

It is easy to be disheartened when things go wrong, but fortunatly most furby problems are common, easy to fix & there is a lot of info on them around here.

The brakes squeeking can be fixed with some anti squeeking compound that most garages/service centres will have (so I have been told).

At the end of the day its about how much the cars is costing you to run vs the cost of a new car! :p

if youve been happy with it so far whats to stop you getting another skoda, surley something thats done that many mile cant be half bad at all! :)

The squeaking brake problem is to do with the lack of copper grease on the pads - or so i've been told... mine did squeak but after the grease was applied no more squeak! :)

Question for the techies - would it be possible to get a second-hand ECU (eg. from a scrapped car) that would be likely to work?

yes it would i believe, buit would have be retuned to your car i believe,

my ecu went on my old rover 25, i got a 2nd hand one from scrap yard but had to be programmed by dealer, it cost be £75 for the programming and £30 from the scrap yard for the ECU considerably cheaper than the £1100 quoted by rover

Has the car ever been chipped?
