Loud turbo whistle

Featured Replies

A couple of days ago my and again today i can hear the turbo really loudly. I've fitted a CAI and DV recently so thought a possible loose connection there, but everything is fine and tight.

The noise is intermittent, didn't do it for the few days before the first occurence and today. I though possible exhaust leak?

Anyone had similar?

Any drop in performance when you hear the whistle? I might have thought a loose hose, but would expect less power at that point.

ive had something with the driverside bottom back boost hose it either slightly come off or the hose come away from the metal coupler jack up and have a look if so there not all that much from skoda my mech says it comman

Dan you mean the pipes on the intercooler?

I'll check it out this weekend, only place i can't really see well so could be.

Its probably the connection under the intercooler, in front of the right front wheel

yeah rite at the back of the driver side u can feel it from the top but u need to do this when the engines stone cold , but if you get underneath u can see it quite easily , there several issues with this pipe it can can split away from the metal coupler or there a u clip that hold it on and on the metal coupler there 2 lugs that wear down allowing it to sound very loud mate

have ago let me know how you get on

I'll look this weekend hopefully. No loss of power experienced when it happens, so it may just be the start of something.

Mine has started to do this too.... can hear it best when your on your knees near front right of the car and its just a whistling as you rev through to about 3k but not hard revving....

How Did you get on with it???

that will be the lower boost pipe from pancake pipe to the pipe at the back of the engine... when the seal is fecked it moves under boost and leaks badly a very common problem with these cars

it has been revised and the new part from skoda comes with an uprated seal fitted its about £40 takes 10mins to fit

I never did anything about it, the car hasn't made the noises again since and i cba kneeling down in a few inches of snow to check the SMIC pipes!

Westallc, you mention pancake pipe... don't i remember someone offering a more rounded out version of that pipe aftermarket? I can't remember who does it....

EDIT found one by THS that looks decent. How easy is it to get the front bumper off the VRS so i can have a good look around?

This should give you all the info you need to get the bumper off and have a look around the intercooler:

You quoted this earlier mate in the thread... is this pipe under the car and runs from the intercooler up towards the back of the turbo???

Cheers for any help :)

yes mate it is the one that joins the pancake pipe with the pipe that runs up the back of the block to the turbo

very common in fact just changed mine and the bro inllaws and my mates at the same time lol when they leak you can loose boost and car drives like poop lol

sometimes you wont even notice its only when you put it on a ramp and see the condensation around it with a bit of oil sure sign its leaking

they have uprated now so should be good

Thats Cool :) going to see if i can get it up in the air :)

Would it be part number 20 on this diagram from Vagcat???

Cheers again :)
