Is an Octavia a good company car choice finacially?

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

Being a traditionally tight Yorkshireman and proud of it, I am looking into exactly what my next choice of company car will cost me.

I'm a Skoda fan in general, and I am currently driving a Vrs Tdi Estate. We all think of Skoda's as being good value, compared to other VAG members....but are they a good choice for the company car driver in terms of BIK company car tax???? Here's some food for thought.

For me, I do about 17K private miles per year, so I opt for fuel benefit to be included. I have just been comparing the the actual amount of BIK tax I will be paying and the results surprised me!! These result are for base spec cars (not even including metalic), full value at %40 income tax.

Audi A3 Sportback 170 S-Line Quattro £275/month £3300/year £9900 over 3 years of ownership

Skoda Octavia Vrs Estate £274/month £3299/year £9897 over 3 years

Skoda Octavia Vrs Hatch £256/month £3075/year £9225 over 3 years

Skoda Octavia Eleg Estate £241/month £2,888/year £8664 over 3 years

Audi A3 Sportback 170 S-Line £239/month £2869/year £8607 over 3 years

Skoda Octavia Eleg Hatch £234/month £2816/year £8448 over 3 years

Audi A3 Sportback 140 S-Line £169/month £2024/year £6072 over 3 years.

It all comes down to the emissions figures. However, just picture this....choosing an Audi A3 Sportback S-Line spec, would save you nearly £64/month, about £800/year or a whopping £2370 over a 3 years of ownership as a company car when compared to an Octavia Elegence hatchback.

Here's a few more including other cars to put this into a wider context (appologies that some of the column may be out of line)

For me, I would still go for the Elegance :)

Elegance for me as well. I prefer my toys.

I'd expect the S-Line spec to be quite quite good, what extra toys (of real value) would Elegence offer?? An extra £64 in the back pocket every month could get you a 2 week holiday each year? or a football season ticket? or pay golf green fees for a year ....etc, etc?

On a 'toys' basis, there would have to be some serious toys to justify that level of monetry difference? And remember...as a copmapny car you don't get to keep the toys,.....your basically just paying the extra money for the use of them over the 3 years!!!

Other than the limited boot space of the A3 sportback...I think it's one hell of a bargain!!
