Diagnostic link problem

Featured Replies

Good morning, all. 2 identical Felicias 1997, used to work with Vag-com, now getting link error on both. Tried another reader which works on other cars, same report. Different leads and plugs, so not that. Tried removing battery for 24 hrs, no difference. Tried removing radio, no difference. Checked voltages on OBD socket, seem OK. Earthing OK. Both cars running OK, or nearly OK. Help!!!!!!! (& thanks for any advice)

If you are using an authentic interface, what are the results in Options > Test?

something shorting the signal loop, do they have airbags as sometimes if the airbag controller gets wet (on the tunnel at the front) it will stop comms, try disconnecting the airbag controllers then trying again

Thank you. To the best of my knowledge it is a kosher cable - the system belongs to a friend and I have used it before on both these cars, when it worked perfectly well. The error message is ( from memory) "link failure" (or something similar) and suggests the cable or a stuck K-line. However the volts on the K-line test ok, and there is a similar message on another diagbox which works ok on other vehicles, using its own cable. So, not the cable I think.

Thank you. I hadn't thought of that one, but strange that it should happen on both cars. I wonder if it possible to test for shorts at the OBD socket, and if so, with which pins ?

Very grateful for your input. HJ

Aftermarket Radio Page

Look at the very bottom of the page. The DLC connector is detailed there and will give you the information you need to trouble shoot the connector.

I find it very strange that 2 cars exhibit the very same problem. Highly unusual. Not impossible.

Very many thanks for this very helpful info. Actually, I always buy two identical cars precisely for this reason. Its easy to transplant suspect components for diagnosis when a problem arises. In my experience, cars of a particular model tend to profuce exactly the same faults - Felicia thermostat housing for instance, or the voltage regulator/airbag light problem - but when they both go down at the same time, my strategy fails!!

Aha ! Measuring across pin 4 and pin 7 is open circuit. Broken wire somewhere, methinks
