Heated washer jets?

Featured Replies

A couple of questions while I wait for my Yeti (in March). We just spent the last few days on a 1400 mile trip across Britain in my Peugeot, and had a couple of problems that I hope the Yeti might solve:

1. Frozen screen washers. Despite using screenwasher fluid, my washer jets froze overnight - I guess the fluid isn't rated down to -18c. Does the Yeti have heated screen washer jets?

2. As a result of 1, I blew the fuse on the screenwashers, and then found there are no spare fuses in the Peugeot. I'm used to cars have spare fuses in the fuse box. So, does the Yeti have spare fuses available?

Hi tarbat,

Not on the SE

Think heated washer jets normally come with heated seat function but not sure with the Yeti.

Been using VAG screen wash fluid myself; neat rated to -70. Therefore been diluting 1:4 with water. Not frozen yet (front, back & lights) with indicated car temps down to -12.

Have read the VAG screen wash is cheaper to buy from VW than Skoda, the one I have at the mo came free when I last serviced the Golf.

Edit

Been looking at the on-line handbook, does not appear to be any designated spare fuses. Dim and distant memory I think that was the same for the Octavia as I had to go to the Motor Factors to get a replacement.

Now carry a £3.99 AA bulb and fuse kit I picked up from my local Total petrol station; great value for a get you home pack as it contains:

Bulbs

H7, H4 & H1 dipped/main beam

5, 21 and 21/5w tail lights

an internal capless bulb

Fuses (blade)

10, 15 & 20amp

Thanks for the reply. I've ordered an Elegance, with heated seats, so maybe I'll get lucky. The online owners manual states:

"The windscreen washer nozzles are heated* when the ignition is switched on", and

"You should always add antifreeze to the cleaning water in winter even if your vehicle is fitted with heated windscreen washer nozzles*."

But doesn't explain what the "*" means.

Yes, I managed to buy a pack of fuses at the motorway services, so I've got some spares now. I blew the fuse on the screenwashers twice, so now have a plentiful supply of fuses!!

This usually denotes that the function described is not standard on all trim levels or in particular countries.

The Yeti owners manual states - "The small box with replacement fuses is part of the basic equipping of the vehicle in some countries." I guess the UK does not qualify for this!!

My advise to everyone - carry some spare fuses. Driving miles and miles searching for spare fuses on UK motorways that are heavily gritted is an experience I would not wish on anyone.

I have been using the correct mix of washer fluid (Decosol) throughout the cold period (it's been down to -11.9C here) and no problems with front, rear or headlamp washers. Personally I think using the right screenwash mix is more important than whether the washers are heated - especially if (as on the Elegance) you have headlamp washers as well.

Over the month of January, my head lamp washers froze over night, so when i put the kettle of warm water over the windscreen i forgot all about the headlamp washers.

For a day or two one of the headlamp washers did not retract fully but finally did by the weekend when it got a bit warmer. After that they no longer worked

Today i just thought I’d try the fuse and bingo the 20amp fuse was blown. I never felt so happy to see a blown fuse. Well at least no taking the whole system apart.

So yea tomorrow I’m buying a bucket load of spares to carry around. pity the VAG car save money in these areas.

YOU have to put freeze protected WW fluid in the system.

Heated jets don't solve that problem......and IMHO are not worth it. The amount of heat will not solve the problem if you do not use the right fluid.

I always carry one of those sets of spare bulbs and fuses as we go to Europe most years and it's a requirement in most countries. Luckily I've never had to use them but for what they cost it's well worth having a set in the glovebox.
