Newbie with a major problem

Featured Replies

Hi, new to this forum, advised by hubby to join since it seems such a 'decent' Skoda site.

had my vrs from new since oct 54.

it had been running fine, mot'd/serviced regularly, but I'd had to change garages about 3 yrs back cos my usual one relocated.

(I love my car with a vengeance, so can be a bit of a pain when anything goes wrong).

2 weeks before Xmas, hubby was about to fit new headlight bulb and notices oil all over left side of engine, so off i go to the garage....."got an oil leak, will you sort it out please".

2 days later they call me to say my intercooler is cracked, but they need to investigate further.

further investigation showed a turbo which had oil collecting in it, they removed it and sent it off to be 'checked'.

turns out that had cracks on the inside as well.

Result = £1788 repair bill for new intercooler, turbo, couple of bulbs and tyre.

got car back couple of days before xmas.....noticed oil on forecourt, didnt give it much thought, assuming it was from above problem.

so, few days ago, oil can symbol shows on display......because of the weather, assumed it was because car was getting to cold.

anyway, hubby not convinced, so today he checks oil level.......dipstick comes out clean

put in a litre of oil, dipstick still comes out clean......plus serious amount of oil collecting on forecourt.

advised by neighbour not to drive under any circumstances.

Now, my car is just over 5 yrs old, almost 80, 000 miles on clock and drives up and down the A2 from Rochester to Hackney for work.

I admit to being a bit of a 'speed-freak' @ 55 yrs old....but i have never abused or ragged my engine....although not a mechanic, i know when its 'not well' and get it seen to asap.

Is it me or is it my garage????

Hi there, try reposting this in the correct model section i.e. Octavia / Fabia. Not as many people look in the new member section as look in the model specific sections. You will find you'll get a better response in there.

Welcome aboard.
