Traction Control

Featured Replies

An observation to share with you all ...

I've always been a bit sceptical as to what that traction control actually did on the two vRS's that I have owned, as it only seemed to flash the traction control light on the dash. This was especially so in first gear.

Anyway with all the snow around, the traction control still appears to have little effect in first and will let the wheels spin excessively. However, when accelerating in second gear you can actually use full throttle (I am not saying you should, this was just for the purposes of seeing how effective the systems are) and the traction control is very effective and completely limits the amount of wheelspin. Pretty impressive

I have driven other cars where the traction control was more effective in first gear, but in retrospect these cars could 'bog down' when exiting a junction rather than allowing some wheelspin and keeping the engine pulling.

Traction control is a pain in the arse if you have DSG, mind you it wasn't any good on the 140 PD Golf that I had before it, it kept intervening when you least wanted it.

I don't like it you should be able to switch it off if you want to.

I still have the option of turning the TCS off on my car, but it also turns off the ESP as well. I understand the newer cars (mine is only two months old!) only allow you to turn the TCS off but not the ESP.

You're right there. I've had it make the DSG hunt between 1 and 2 when I had crap tyres.
