squeak from engine?

Featured Replies

here's one for you all. i have a vrs tfsi and noticed that on startup there is an annoying squeak which seems to be coming from

pulley belt area. after a while once warm the noise goes away :wonder: i tried spraying the belt with some silicone lube and this

seemed to cure it temporarily. do you think the pulley belt needs replacing(looks in good condition though) any ideas/thoughts much

appreciated

dunknat,

i had exactly the same sound / problem, it was transmitting through into the cabin as well, took it to my local dealer in Rheindalen & it was back within a day with a new alternator (under warranty) & lots of apologies from Dealers.

many thanks will have to look into that. thought it could be the rubber in the belt which once warmed was

obviously softer and therefore the noise stops..

Ditto, i took my car to the VW garage in rheindalen right next to the skoda showroom, but they said it was fine, cos buy that point it had warmed up. Its worse in the cold, im going to get it tightened up on this service coming up

as you say you will get yours tightened up do you mean your belt is slipping?

my noise is not a slipping belt noise, it is a very regular squeak ( about twice a second ). at first thought it was a

bearing in something gone dry but as i say if i spray the actual pulley belt with lube the noise dies off

Alternator belt on way out. Had same problem on a previous Octavia.

i reckon its the belt, if it was the bearing i reckon itr would do it hot or cold.
