Anyone gone from Fabia VRS to a Scout?

I'm thinking about chopping my car in. Has anyone else gone from a Fabia vrs to a Scout diesel? If so, what would you say were the main differences performance, ride and comfort wise?

At 85,000 miles in 5.5 years, I'm thinking about changing my brilliant Fabia vRS. I've had a test drive in a pre-FL Scout TDi, and liked it! I think I'm waiting for the CR engine.......... Ignoring recent snow events, my test drive was several months ago and I liked the feeling of solidity which the Fabia vRS lacks, although the Fabia vRS would disappear up the road far faster than the Scout. Also, Scout tyres are VERY expensive.

Well I have had a Scout and also a Ibiza FR 130.

The Scout is fab, miles better then the Ibiza. On a run from Cheltenham to Milton Keynes on the back rounds the Scout is quicker.... Surprising?

It may not be as quick, 0-60 or in gear, but point to point its just easier more restful and most of the time quicker... Traction is amazing, the ride is so relaxing, soaks up the bump far better etc... My licence was at greater risk in the scout then the Ibiza as your generally going 20mph faster.

I was very close to getting a remap, 312mm front brake upgrade, also looked into the idea of fitting ARB's from a S3, R32 and the like because although its great when really pushing on it does roll a little which I think a larger rear arb would help.

Just picked up my Scout TDI today which replaces the Fabia vRS LE that went last November. Early indications are good. Obviously less planted in corners, but I'm not going to test out new tyres after just 20 miles. Proof of the pudding will come after I consider it appropriate to increase the revs a bit. Definitely more sophisticated technologically, and certainly feels better built.

We purchased a new Fabia vRS & a new140tdi Scout a couple of years ago. The vRS is as you know, tremendous fun to drive - however the Scout is more relaxed, safer & slightly more expensive to run..mpg/rubber etc. If we sell one any time soon it will probably be the little one. Tyres around the £110 mark for the Scout & it really only likes to produce in excess of 50 mpg when the tank is half full and 2 up with minimal luggage - in my experience. The Scout is, once again, in my opinion, unbeatable value for money & tremendously versatile.

we have a Fabia 1.9tdi (MK1 estate, 06 plate) and a Scout 2.0TDI. The fabia feels nippier, but the Scout is actually the quicker car. It's just that it feels so much more refined.

I have had a Fabia vRS and now a scout...

First Skoda was Octavia Mk1 vRS replacing my very old Audi 100 quattro. Loved the performance in the dry, fuel consumption was great for a petrol but missed the ability to use the power on wet greasy and sometimes wintery roads. After a few months changed.

Second Skoda was Octavia Mk1 4x4 1.8T great car in almost all respects. Fuel consumption a little high especially with the grippy BF Goodrich G-Force tyres.

Third Skoda was Fabia vRS chipped to about 180 bhp. Amazing little car with a fair bit of space for its size except in the boot. My Octavia was in for a service and I was offered a test drive in the Fabia, first with normal 130 bhp which made for a nice nippy drive and then modded to 180 bhp which blew me away. Fuel consumtion of nearly 60 mpg sold me the car.

Forth Skoda was the Octavia Scout. Needing more space in both the back and the boot I got the Scout. Not a performance car but quick enough for everyday. Fuel consumption still nearly 50 mpg so not bad for a big 4x4 car!

Reflecting on these cars I would say the Fabia was the best drive, chuckable... felt small and precise. I remember on a snowy Forsest track needing to turn around and with no space either side of the track I spun it around with a handbrake turn! I cannot imagine doing that in any other car I have had. The Octavia 4x4 and Scout are great "get you there" cars. Rain, snow, mud or just long distances the cars will reliably do the job. The petrol 1.8T 4x4 was much quicker off the mark but the mid-range pull of the diesel Scout coupled with better economy make it the best all rounder. My best ever car was probably the Audi 100 quattro, but it was old and things started to fail. For years I lusted after an Audi Allroad so the Octavia Scout was the best "poor mans" option. 95% an Allroad for 50% the price! I love to park up next to Allroads in car parks when there is the opportunity, the cars are just so similar to look at.

So get the Scout, it is a great car, but sure when there's no luggage to be carried and a windy B-Road beckons you'll miss the Fabia vRS.

Agree that there's a shared "honesty" between the Scout and the old 2.5 TDI Allroad which I regarded as our best allround car and had an amazing 208mm of ground clearance. When the new one came out this was reduced to 185mm and the car became too "executive", losing its honesty. Although no longer available with the awesome sounding 4.2 V8 petrol, the 240PS 3.0 litre diesel pulls magnificently and returns over 40 MPG.

The A4 allroad is expensive compared to the A6 allroad, and loses the active suspension. As you say, in comparison the Scout is phenomenal value and I don't think its overshadowed by an Allroad parked next to it.

I picked a Scout to fill the gap between the buzz I got from the Fabia, and the functionality I remembered fondly from my old Allroad.
