Fab VRS ABS Pump Replacement - Leeds

Featured Replies

Hi All,

Got the fun news that the ABS pump control unit is faulty on my 54 Fabia VRS.

Anyway the dealer (Martin Beever - York) have quoted £727 +VAT for Pump and Control Unit and £424 +VAT for control unit alone!!

Can anyone offer any advice on the following:

What should the labour time be on replacing the pump?

I'm thinking of buying a spare from a scrappers (have seen pricing around £180 to £200 for the pump with control unit with 3 months warranty) - is this a sensible idea?

Is there anywhere I can buy the new part cheaper?

Can anyone recommend a good specialist in Leeds / West Yorkshire?

Thanks in advance for any reponses!

Dave

pump fitting labour time i'm guessing would be in the region of 2 hours,

are the dealership 100% certain that it is at fault ?

if you are going to get one from the scrappers, make sure it is the right one for your car, take part numbers off your old unit with you to match up with scrap unit

- Basically they plug in their diagnostics and it's read all the fault codes. There was a wire which was broken underneath the car and loads of error codes were thrown up, so they repaired it and reset everything and re-ran diagnostics - the only fault code remaining was the ABS control unit failure.

The only symtpom I noticed was that the ASR light was intermittantly permenantly on and then would just 'cure itself' and the light would go out (except when it used ABS) - never noticed any loss of ABS function though.

I wouldn't really bother with it, but it's the wife's car and we've got 2 young kids so braking faults shouldn't really be ignored!! Also, I read that insurance companies may not pay out if you were aware of an issue which led or caused part of an accident.

Thanks for your response!

There is a reasonable Skoda dealer in Harrogate (Starbeck) so you could get a price from them. Roger Holmes is the independent VW specialist in York I use. You could get a price for the parts from a motor factors like Andrew Page in York just to check the prices for the parts are correct.

I had the ABS warning light on and off when I had the fabia. After reading up on the symptoms I thought it was the pump. Turned out to be one of the fuses by the battery - £2 to fix :-)

Replacing ABS unit books at 1.5hours labour. Get it to a VAG independent to verify the diagnosis. Try BBA-Reman for a replacement unit at a lot less than the dealer price.
