K03s

"accept no substitutes" :D :D

Should be a K03s... but thats not to say its not been fitted with a K03 if original one is buggered ....

You should be able to tell with the veins on the turbo... the K03S has 8 and the K03 Should have 12

thanks ill have a check today :wonder:

do all k03s have the silencer in them also?

Externally the K03 and K03s are identical, since the K03s is just a K03 with upgraded internals. All mk1 vRS's have a K03s turbo from the factory.

had a look its a k03s as its got the silencer thing on it, just need to find one now as its fooked

They're not actually all externally identical. Lee is correct in saying that the K03s normally has a silencer on the compressor outlet, so that's an easy way to tell.

But it's hard to spot without first removing the heat shield bag covering the compressor outlet. I guess that's why his mate missed it.

You definately have a K03s as that's all that the vRS had. But like g60bron said, to be sure you can count the blades on the compressor wheel.

Why's it bust? What have you done to the poor thing!

well it mite not be the turbo after all possibly just actuator, car isnt boosting properly etc and with my fault in previous post about popping and hesitating etc had the car checked and when on the computer things like maf and lambda etc are not showing any signals so causing a missfire at just over 5k revs.

but when you hold the wastegste arm all signals come back to be 100% and no missfire so it looks like the wastegate penny is not sitting correctly so either bent arm or weak actuator.

hope that madw sense

I don't really understand :S ! Does the turbo ever achieve full boost? Or does it overboost? Is it noisier than normal?

I know Forge do replacement actuators for the K03s, so see how much they are.

If you're overboosting, then maybe the diaphragm has torn and is leaking, or maybe the pressure hose to the actuator is leaking. Or possibly the actuator rod has been bent, effectively shortening the rod, and increasing the preload on the spring.

If you're not achieving full boost then maybe the actuator spring has lost some of it's stiffness, through corrosion. Or like you say, there's something wrong with the wastegate valve itself.

All this assumes that the effective rod length hasn't been fiddled with or somehow accidentally adjusted.

If the actuator and rod are fine, and you find that the wastegate valve is worn or damaged, then you'll probably have to try and source a new turbine housing if you can. As the lever arm assemblies are usually non-servicable and can only be removed by drilling the weld off and replacing the separate components, that probably only the OM has access to.

I'd point you to one of our actuator suppliers, but I doubt they'd be competitve on a one-off, and I doubt they're allowed to sell them anyway.

ive already sourced another turbo which is pretty cheap so im just going to buy it and try the actuator off that first.

what sort of job is it to change actuator?
