USB drivers

Featured Replies

Guys, I've got a USB cable to use on my laptop with VAG Com but I don't have any s/w drivers for the cable - any idea where I can find them please ?

Or where can I get a recommended cable & drivers to match ?

Thanks

Where did you get the USB to OBDII cable from? they would be my first port of call.

If it isn't a genuine cable, then the supplier is your only port of call.

the chances are that the gubbins inside the cable are made by FTDI (I think even the genuine cables use FTDI hardware) so you can download the suitable drivers from the FTDI website.

Assuming you are using windows XP you can go into the device manager and then click on the entry for the cable (probably unknown hardware) and get the string for the vendor and device ID, bung that into google and see what it tells you. I don't have a windows PC to hand so this is just from memory.

Alternatively you could ask the people you bought it from...

It's a couple of years ago now, can't remember where I got it, but it says "ESHRULES ENTERPRISES" on the cable - would that use FTDI drivers ?

probably

probably

Thanks for the advice so far :wonder:

OK I downloaded the FTDI drivers, now the OBD cable is recognised & shown in device manager (windows XP) as USB serial convertor.

But I still cant get any comms with my car.

ON VAG COM 409 I select "test" & get the message

Port status OK

Interface not found

This is with the engine running.

Any ideas what to try next please ?

Look at the thing in device manager and see what port it is set to, it needs to be between 1 and 4 for vag com to use it and it be set to 5 or 7 or something equally unhelpful.

You can also download the USB patch from Rosstech directly if this helps....
