Service Due - You What?

Featured Replies

Just had a letter today, from Gordon Lamb, stating my first service is due on 29th December 2009.

Car was supplied at zero miles the end of July last and has only done about 8000 miles. On extended service intervals as well. I'll be interested to hear the dealers reasons tomorrow. Anyone care to speculate?

I get those all the time telling me this and that is due blah blah blah, ignore it. Your car will tell you when it needs a service. Could be a simple typo when your details were put into the computer that spits reminders out.

Car was new in July 09?

Yes, hence my surprise!

:wonder:

In my service book it states that it is on a Variable service and also that the first service is due at 10,000 miles !!

So which is it, 10k or 19k?

Is the 10k just to check all is well?

As above. Ignore and go by the car.

Ford said my 1st service on works car was due before Christmas. I've just booked it's 3rd.

There's been a long thread on the Honest John forum about this. I've read all the arguments and I still think that the simple, old-fashioned rule of oil change ever 10,000 / 1 year, major service every 20,000 / 2nd year is trhe easiest to remember and best for the car.

My vRS is on free servicing, so gets one every 10,000 miles for the first 30,000. If I go beyond that I'll keep it that way.

The receptionist (sorry Service Team) acknowledged my car was on long service intervals. Despite that, they wanted to do a health check at 6 months to make sure all was well. The letter did say a service was due. "So just bring it in when convenient" Never convenient I'm afraid.

"Oh, we'll remind you again in June then....."

Car display says 9373 miles and service not due for another 8300 miles so they may not be too far out there. Amazed than my average monthly mileage has been ~1800. I rarely see the mileometer as it disappears when I am driving.

6 month health check!

What a workshop filling idea that is :D

Indeed. Dont see the need to spend money just for them to look at it from across a yard and say "yup, looks fine guv".

More chance they will alter you to a fixed regeime whilst it's in if servicing is a bit slack.
