Boot Jammed Shut (Boot Solonoid Question)

Featured Replies

I am having a nightmare at the moment with this car lol, Today the boot was jammed shut and i could not open the boot by the key in the boot or either the drivers door, I couldnt hear the solonoid either. Got somebody to climb in and open the boot from the inside only to fine that the solonoid (little white block) was seized and stuck onto the lock so was preventing me from opening from the key. I then disconected the solonoid and the boot can now only be opened by key but does not lock with the central locking.

The confusing part which i want to bring up is the local skoda dealer says i need a whole new lock mechanism at £167.56 which i am not going to do as i can make do with just using the key, but despite me explaining that there is a little white box (solonoid) which looks like its seperate to the lock mechanism they said its supplied as a complete unit and that i have to but the whole mechanism at £167.56 which seems stupid and they just said thats the way it is.

Then I gave them the part number on this white solonoid and thng they replied....oh yes that is a seperate part at £10.50 but then said they cant let me have it as i need a special adaption link so i ask what this was and they said it wasnt showing on their system, I then said if i buy this solonoid and i need something else to make it work with my octy can i get a refund and they said no.

This is because the part that i need is used on several models and there is a difference between each model range such as if its fitted to an audio a4 or a seat or vag but it wont show what modified part i need.

Has anyone fitted a solonoid to a mk 1 octavia boot without all this bolokss in other words did you have to buy the solonoid then pay out for a little modified bit of plastic to make it fit the car just because the same solonoid has been fitted to several vag cars.

Cheers guys

I would have thought that the parts required to make it fit an Octavia would already be on an Octavia?

If the part doesn't show in the system how would the workshop fit it?

I think your parts department may be talking carp.

Is this the part number for the solenoid?

1U0 862 159

I can see on VAG CAT that there are two micro switches listed with this, but I think that they come as part of the the solenoid.

Thats what i was thinking mate, the solonoid i have does have a funny pin arm thing coming from it and this can be clipped off. I think this is the mod to fit the octavia lock mechnism. I have tested the solonoid and its only moving one way (in the lock position) so least its less than £15 quid but what annoys me is i was advised i needed the whole lock mech at over 100 quid.

Perhaps it has been a slow month for parts sales and they need to get to their targets :dull:

I am sure that failure of solenoid has been covered on this Forum before and I think that it was just a case of swapping it over. I'm sure that someone who has had this problem will be along before too long.

mine did this the other night - similar symptoms:-

boot lock would work the central locking but not fully turn left (to unlock)

boot handle wouldn't open the boot

drivers controls wouldn't unlock the boot either.

had to open the boot using the orange clip under a boot panel from inside.

fixed (perhaps luckily) by:-

remove the trim (the only fasteners are the visible ones x4) - two panels up either side and long panel along inner boot lip.

i unscrewed the white box (two screws) and disconnected it from the rest of the mechanism - the linkage is only held in by the angle the (solenoid)unit sits at.

unclipped the solenoid casing - gently. there are only 2 parts inside and the plastic shaft will fall out.

the motor looks like one from a scalextric car with a brass gear on the end. the only other part is the actuating rod that is cheap plastic. I freed mine up but moving all the bits several times back and forth - the rod will push in and out. be careful of the part where the (lock end) linkage fits as its even cheaper plastic than the rest of it and isn't that firmly fixed to the main back-and-forth shaft.

replace the casing, re-connect the linkage (again at a funny angle) and screw the box back on. give it a go. mine works fine now.

if it didn't a scrapyard replacement is easy to get at and perhaps really cheap.

hope you get it sorted.
