Octavia rs and dab blaupunkt

Featured Replies

Looking for some general advice. When by Octavia vRS arrives I will be replacing the existing head unit and cd changer for my Blaupunkt DAB 53 head unit and 5 cd in dash autochanger.

I want to get a really good smooth powerful sound from these units and will have about

For a start don't bother with the changer as is uses mp3 cd's which will take 5 albums and still have over half left over.

I'm sure others will pip in on the speaker and amp front.

Thanks rooboy

Already have the changer (and head unit) so thought I might at least use it in the spare din slot in the Octavia

- I use mp3 cd's in the head unit and regular audio cd's in the changer - handy for playing audio cd's - easier than changing em over in a boot mounted affair.

You can also play mp3 tracks from the sd memory disk either recorded from dab or assemble from PC and copied via card reader.

Cheers

I've got the dab52, the only thing I have changed is the front door speakers.

Got the 53 in my Fabia, a very good radio. ;)

I too only changed the front speakers.

Andy_CCR will be able to help you, he works for the car audio centre.

are you looking for a sub in that budget or just a really nice speaker set up ??

I really don't know about a sub - got one in my home cinema set up in the house and its great - but would it be worthwhile in car? - my experience with my current car (peugeot) is that there is no base at all - I upgraded the standard speakers in the front doors but the sound overall is still really poor.

Just want good sound quality for an extra

whats the DAB 53 like? I like the idea of being able to use SD cards to listen to mp3's. Does it use the standard aerial?

I see the DAB 54 lets you link up your pda via bluetooth, why would you want to do that?

"Apart, you can also connect your personal PDA to the head unit (optional Bluetooth adapter necessary)."

The DAB52 and 53 both play SD Cards although the manual for the 52 says MMC only. I have a 128MB Fuji SD card in mine right now. When I am not using the car I put the card in my PDA for access to the same tunes.

Do you simply transfer the files in windows? I have a panasonic MP3 player and you have to use Real player to tranfer the tunes, takes 3 times longer!

As long as the files are mp3 format you can transfer them with anything, explorer, media player, realplayer etc... its easier with a card reader in the pc.

do you have to use a special aerial?

Yes. you can either buy a beesting aerial that replaces the standard aerial, this replaces the whole lot and can be expensive. A glass mount aerial is cheaper and icks on the glass. You get better reception with the beesting but the glass mount is a fair bit cheaper.

The 53 will also record the DAB radio signal.
