Inaccurate mpg on maxidot

Featured Replies

Maxidot says I'm doing 45mpg+. However, my own calculations (brim tank, drive, brim tank again, do maths) say I'm only doing 39mpg. Why is my maxidot deliberately misleading me? Is it trying to make me feel better?

LOL no. Good idea tho. The Maxidot has tolerances so your wheel diameter has and other things. You dealer may adjust your Maxidot.

I think that on board computers can only approximate the statistics. SWMBO has a Fiat Doblo, which is normally about 10% out, the Octy seems better, but not perfect.

My old one was 10% optimistic, current one is 3 - 4 % pessimistic. I've never got around to setting the fudge factor, despite having VCDS - psychologically I like knowing it's doing even more mpg than it's claiming. :)

But how accurate is the odometer?

How do you know you have filled the tank to the same level?

How accurate is the metering on the petrol pump?

Lots of variances. Both your calculations and the on board computer are best estimates given the potential inaccuracies of the source data.

That's exactly it.

Skoda know that most people will believe that and have a warm glow about how efficient their car is , without checking.

Mine used to overread by about 7% , as does the Bravo I'm driving now
