Exhaust System Failure?

Featured Replies

Not yet had my Yeti a week when a warning light pinged on. On referring to the handbook it turned out to be the 'Exhaust System Failure' warning light and I was advised to drive with caution to the nearest specialist garage, which I did.

The finding according to the job sheet was:

"Sporadic fault with manifold pressure sensor. Erased fault memory, carried out adaption to sender unit".

Apparently it was something they hadn't seen before and advised that if it happened again not to panic as it was still safe to drive.

The very next day another warning light pinged on. Not again I thought but this turned out to be the Tyre Pressure Monitor and I did in fact have a slow puncture. So the TPM works well at least.

Good to hear that the Tyre Pressure Monitor works. Interesting fault on the other though a little unsettling I would have thought, on your new car.

My Yeti was exactly 10 days old when I had exactly the same fault (the little yellow engine symbol). Apparently mine is caused by a faulty thrust sensor, which the dealer is trying to source, but there are none in the country. I'm having to drive with the warning light on.

This is a brand new engine and I think the first cars to actually arrive in the UK with the 1.2TSI are Yetis (not Polos), hopefully just teething problems.

I have seen this fault registered on two 1,2 TSI engines, one delivered to the customer, and one not yet delivered. :'( The same has happened to lot's of VW Polo's with the same engine. I haven't found any faults on the cars I have diagnosed, and have reported it to the importer. Your dealer is right in telling not to worry if the light comes back on.

I'm hoping for a software fix in the not to distant future.

:)

Does that mean it may not be a faulty thrust sensor?

The ones I have diagnosed haven't had any faulty sensors at the time I diagnosed them. And the fault that was stored in the fault memory was like the OP descibed "manifold pressure sensor" sporadic fault. Same fault stored on the two cars I have worked on, all pressure related sensors ok when diagnosed.

There are 3 pressure sensors on the 1,2TSI engine, one on the pressure pipe from the turbo to the throttle, one on the intake manifold (after the intercooler) and one incorporated into the engines ECU.

HI my light came on after 10 days 500 miles dealer found no problems and put light out still off 2days later hope it stays that way. Must be a software problem

I don't believe it – the light has gone out now!

It was due to have the manifold pressure sensor replaced (thrust sensor) this morning (swapped with a showroom model). I've agreed to not replace it and wait to see if there is a solution from Skoda over the next few weeks. Hopefully the light won't come back on again in the meantime!
