Impreza Wheels, Fitting Question.

Featured Replies

So Impreza wheels have a PCD of 5x100, right?

But they won't fit directly because the center bore is too small so they just wouldn't mount on the hub.

Question is, looking at spacers online and ebay.. the universal ones don't have a center bore lip on the wheel side.

Does this mean that Impreza wheels would "bolt" straight on with a 10mm spacer with no bore lip?

Or have I missed something / the point?

Are those universal spacers any good or should I stear well clear? I'm trying to get clued up on this stuff ya see before taking any plunges!

Also, the tyres on my Fabia are the standard size (is it 205/45)?? That's on the standard 6.5J rim. Would these fit onto a 7j 16" rim.. and if so is that technically stretch or just tyres that are a little slim? I'm not after stretch, but just wonders if I'd need new tyres when only going wider and not larger.

Actually, the offset looks to be 53+ so would need 20mm spacers really, and of course the right nuts.

but is the theory on the spacers and hub bore right?

You're right in your thinking. I wouldn't want to use them on anything other than a show car though.

I've done a bit more looking around and I think the wheels are Hubcentric so removing the lip form the equation would most likely = wobberly wheels.

Shame that, Impreza wheels are dirt cheap.

What's the centre bore on them. If it's smaller than the 57.1 VAG standard then you could always get it bored out. But yes, you still need to solve the offset issue.

Personally I'd look elsewhere for the correct bore and offset 'off the shelf'.

Yeah, it's 56 something Steve..

Think i'll keep with in VAG or for VAG then.. shame cuz I recon these.....

I agree with them been dirt cheap, i think i'm gonna invest in a set and drill them out to 57.1 and put them on. or even get 20mm spacers and get the lip turned so its same bore as subaru use.

tyres will fit but madness imo using 20mm spacers.

I've been doing more reading on various forums and sites.

The Nut-Centric vs Hub-Centric debate it seems is a big one.

Some people point out that if the wheel weren't Hub-centric it'd take forever to get on and off without the hub lip. Also that you mustn't alter wheels unless a true professional as a wonky center bore will cause vibrations.

Whilst other people point out that once the wheel is on the hub, but not bolted you can rotate in to align and how can a fit that loose take any weight or "straighten" a wheel fit so it must be the nuts that align.

So, really.. If you believe the hub lip is so loose it's a fitting aid only, and the nuts take the cars weight, you can mil/sand/machine the center bore larger and have confidence the nuts will pull it in tight and take the weight.

On the other hand, If you believe the Center hub is required for fitting correctly and more importantly load bearing you'll take the opinion that you must NEVER alter the center bore unless fully trained and 100% competent.

Personally? I don't know, but acknowledge that with out chatting to the guys that actually design the hub + wheel arrangement it's far to risky.

And also, if it wasn't important the Spigot rings wouldn't exist!

Thanks for all your comments. I'm diggin around the VAG wheel store me thinks ;):D

well if it were me i would use a hubcenric spacer and machine the outer spigot to suit in a lathe... and wouldn't worry about using the 20mm spacer as the wheel offset is going to be the same as the std alloys then, the 14mm wheel bolts are more than up to the job unlike when folk used to fit huge spacers to a mini with 3/8 studs lol.

my rallycar uses a mixture of wheels some of which locate on the central spigot and some locate on the studs and as long as you tighten opposites gently it is not a problem (4x100 felicia ) but my wheels are a tight fot over the studa due to me using 14mm studs.

They do fit, mate has a bug eye Impreza and we tried some for a laugh! :)

They look preetty good but need different bolts iirc

Really, now I'm really lost, lol!

maybe the later bug eye ones have a bigger spigot or maybe aftermarket ones with large/no spigot rings?

you would need tapered wheel bolts instead of the radius'd ones tho
