Cruise Control

Featured Replies

What process is needed to retro fit cruise control to my Octavia?

I've seen some cruise control switches on ebay and was curious to know if it can be done or not?

Has anyone done this already and can you point me in the right direction please, cheers.

Also, is this the correct stalk for my model car?

Hi,

Check the dealer's for the stalk - I paid £65.00 from the dealer a couple of years back - you give them the VIN number and the money, they give you the correct stalk. There were none on EBAY when I did mine that were cheaper than the dealer.

I fitted mine myself but it's by no means a straightforward job, I had to break seals on ECM's and removing the old switch will require stout feeler gauges, it's held on with plastic latches that are only accessible with the steering wheel off.

Depending on the month of manufacture, you may also need to add another wire to the wiring loom. Not difficult but adds another few bits to remove to gain access. If made after about June 2005, the wires are fitted. The replacement wire is included in the kit as are basic instructions (so basic they say 'fit the control' and 'fit the wire here and here if the wire isn't there').

Once re-assembled, your steering position warning light will be on until you have driven a few yards.

Also take care with the steering wheel - it's on a fairly fine spline so easy to get it one spline out and then you have to undo it again to re-align it.

Once fitted you need to get it enabled. Find somebody nearby with VAGCom. It takes a couple of minutes, remember to turn the engine off remove the key from the ignition after enabling it otherwise it won't be recognised until you do.
