Sat Nav Problem

Featured Replies

The sat nav in my 2005 elegance has started to be a bit unreliable.

It often complains that the CD is incompatible, and when eventually it does start working, it can take 20 mins to plan a route and often loses the route, displaying "no route" in the matrix display on the dash.

My theory is that it's the CD that is the problem, as the unit picks up satellites OK. When it loses the route it still knows the direction and distance to the destination.

Has anyone had a similar issue and is there a remedy (save asking Skoda to fix it, which may cost an arm and a leg!!)

Cheers.

Rob

I had a similar problem and found a scratch on the disc, this disc was gifted to me by a friend who returned his leased ford, replaced with the original disc and problem solved. The "Ford" disc worked for over a year and I have no idea how it got scratched.

I'd download the software again and burn it to a fresh DVD

it's all over t'internet if you search for "V5 Sat Nav DVD for VW/Seat/Skoda systems RNS510/810" etc

although i dont have a skoda sat nav in my superb....i do use a blaupunkt travel pilot rome 55e....that too started to be a little problematic...took it apart and the cd lens was dirty, thus not picking up data from the cd...i managed to clean it with a touch of alcohol using a cotton bud....i was suprised to see the tip looking quite discoloured....assembled it all together and hey presto..it was as good as new......so clean the cd lens either manually or a good quality cd lens cleaner

Thanks All,

I omitted to say that I have 2 discs and both have the same problem, so I guess it could be the cd head. I'll look at pulling it apart.

I didn't know the software could be downloaded though. Something else I must follow up.

Cheers,

Rob

If you decide to take it apart and clean it, be extremely gentle with the cd lens...damage it and the unit is basically useless, apart from having the radio...to replace the laser lens would be basically buying another new sat nav...possible access to the lens will be limited what with the cd loading drive and all that being rather close together, but you might just see the lens at an acute awkward angle, depending how the sat nav is being handled, and you might need a torx T9 screw driver to undo the minature screws to gain access..but as i stated earlier, just a moist tip of a cotton bud and a few circualr swirls, and you will quite possibly remove enough built on dirt and hopefully make the optical cd lens have more clarity on picking up the info from your sat nav dics and even musc cd's.....let us know how you get on......regards andy

Any more info on downloading the disc please. Does this contain updated maps?

Will this work on the Mk 1 Skoda satnav unit?

Thanks
