Broken Parcel shelf clip/hinge

Featured Replies

Pull out the parcel shelf on the Fabia, and it looks like I've broken off the hinge bit (the black plastic finger thing) on one side of the parcel shelf (on the parcel shelf itself)

Called up my local VW garage, and the parts lady told me that the parcel shelf is one complete unit at £50 or so, and I can't just buy that small bit, as it is moulding into the shelf

before I go about trying to concoct some sort of repair (i can't find the broken bit btw), what are my options?

I don't know of any scrappies around my way, so any other ideas peeps?

new shelf, unless you can find the broken bit, if you find the bit you may be able to fab something up to go inside the broken bit to strengthen it

Phone a Skoda dealer or TPS and enquire about this part No. 6Y0 861 720

I broke mine too, but had the missing part. I glued it and put a screw in it, felt very tight. Anyway, it got f'ed up the next week. So, not really worth it to fix. My parcel sits with only one hinge at the moment and when you open the boot you can hardly recognize it, but I can hear it rattle sometimes, because it's missing.

Got the part today from my local VW parts dept.

cost was something like 71p, so I got a pair.

Just wanted to say thanks to MikeB for posting the part up.

I've had a pair of them in my toolbox since both went on my shelf three or four years ago - still can't figure out how to get the broken bits of the old ones out though!

In the end, I got a long bit of 1/4" dowel and some black gaffa tape. First of all, I gave the ridge along the bottom of the shelf a Brazilian to get the fuzz off, then taped the dowel to the ridge. Good as new, and the black tape means you don't really notice...

funnily enough I had the same problem,

I thought I'd just prise the old broken bit out with a set of pliers and screwdriver, but the broken part just slide deeper into the shelf track when I tried to remove it.

panicked a bit, but then realised hey ho, you can push the broken bit right down into the track and forget about it.

Then push fit the new one in, and it was job done

Nice bit of lateral thinking - will give it a try!
