vRS engine fault (serious??) - glow plug light update...

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Some of you may remember that I posted a while back about my glow plug light coming on on my 3 month old Fabia vRS while I was driving, and the engine cutting out when it did so...

Well, I took it to my dealer who informed me that VAG-COM was telling him it was a camshaft sensor. This was replaced the next day and I collected the car, being told that a lengthy test drive (post repair) had revealed no faults...

However, I got two miles down the road and it happened again, and then again, so the car went back to the dealer the next day...that was last Wednesday...

The dealer still has no idea what is wrong and is now liaising with Skoda UK as to what to do next. He says they have eliminated all electronic possibilities and are now looking for physical faults...

In the mean time, I have been driving around in a brand new Octavia 2.0 TDi PD140, which is okay and pretty quick for a big (and it is REALLY big) car - but I want my Furby back.. :( I am however a bit worried that I may never feel the same about the car when it returns, and will never trust it 100%...

I'm also a bit annoyed, as I bought a brand new car to avoid problems like this. I know it is all being handled under warranty, and I have a nice car in the meantime, but even so.. I also know that it is a one-off, and that I am just unlucky in that random faults like this could have happened to any car that I bought...

Anyway, thought I would keep you all updated. If anyone has any useful ideas that I could pass on to my dealer, feel free to let me know...

Cheers.

Darren

Sounds serious then... Dad's 2.0 TDI Golf is in for a possible complete new engine after a weird graunching noise started... Not good for a 6 month old engine! :grumpy:

Not heard of any problems like that from a Fabia as yet so it looks like yours is a one off. Try not to worry about the cars future, im sure once the dealer has found the fault and repaired it you will enjoy it all the same.

Know how you feel. My Octy vRS is in for various things at just 4 weeks old. Feel really let down and not really enjoying the car as I should be. In addition Mrs R's Furby vRS has a slight niggly problem which just makes the feeling worse that both cars have faults. Hopefully once it's all fixed those feelings will go when the cars are behaving again

Electronic gremlins that don't register as electronic gremlins.

Sounds like they'll be checking the wiring loom carefully. My old 1.4 16v had a piece replaced which seemed to cure similar problems.

Good luck

I had one of the first golf gti tdi an 1998 R plate I think and when starting up the low water light used to blink on then go out (father in law said there was oil in the water as old lorries used to do it and when the oil heats up it drops off the sensor). So I checked the water and there was tiny droplets of oil in it. Took it to main dealers and they said it was normal and vag com wasn't registering any faults at which point I told them they were talking ****e. They replaced the head gasket in the end then for the following two months the car broke down on every alternative Saturday with oil gushing out of the coolant tank. I got on first name terms with the VW assistance man who straight away said it was the intercooler but the dealership said no so more head gaskets more bits and still breaking down.

In the end under advice of the VW assistant man we took it to a different dealership and a new intercooler was fitted and the job was sorted.

The morall of the story is that I believe some of the older heads on this site know more than some of the Skoda dealerships

you come to expect thins like that if you have even ownded a french car
