I know, probably a stupid question, but how do you remove the aerial from the MK II? Just the factory fitted one but I tried to take it off and it just seemed to keep on spinning.

Look at the 'root' of the aerial. If there's a little notch where it meets the aerial 'mast', then you will need to do one of two things, depending on how the anti-theft function works. Either give it a hefty pull once it starts spinning freely, or stick a small screwdriver in the notch to release the catch. I don't know why it's one way on some VAG cars and the other way on others, but the first method applies to older Fabias and the other applies to Leons. Having never taken the aerial off an Octy, I can't say which yours will be...

If there's no notch, then you may just need to keep going, as has been suggested!

This was pointed out to me when I first got my VRs in 2007, it is an anti theft method. Not sure how to get round it as I have never needed to remove the beesting. Bruteforce or wide flat blade screwdriver.
