The words 'nail on the head' spring to mind.

I think it's pretty accurate, there are a couple of cars in there which i am surprised made the list, but other than that it's not far off.

I'd change the ordering a bit, but yeah its not a million miles off imho. :)

It's not bad, but there's a distinct lack of "Cosworth"

I'm surprised the Fabia even made it on there!

Are Cosworth maybe a bit above the term hot hatch?

That said, The Williams Clio is on there.

But there are certainly a few cars in that list that are more "warm" than "hot"...

1. Renault Clio Williams

2. Peugeot 205 GTI

3. Renaultsport Clio 200 Cup - replace with Clio 172 Cup

4. Peugeot 306 Rallye - Replace with 205 GTi 1.9

5. VW Golf GTI Mk II - Needs to be 16v

6. VW Golf GTI Mk V

7. Renault 5 GT Turbo

8. VW Golf GTI Mk I

9. Peugeot 106 Rallye Series 2

10. Ford Focus RS Mk I

11. Honda Civic Type R Mk II - Erm... nope! Replace with Ford Escort Cosworth

12. Mini Cooper Works GP

14. Citroen Saxo VTS - not really hot...

15. Vauxhall Astra GTE 16v

Agreed, although I reckon No. 16 should instead be the RS Turbo version B)

Yes, RST would have been better!

I'd quite like a Fiest RST... :giggle:

Haha you just reminded me of my friend's shed! It was an ex-council Fiesta van that he dropped a modified RST lump into, and stripped out. It was great fun, till it inevitably went bang

That red one's a bit special :mmm:

It's lush! The black on Compomotive's is nice too!

Some tidy ones about for £2000...

cool tbh id change the list around

Theres no way the vRS should be on that list........

It's the "greatest" hot hatches, not necessarily the fastest :)

Indeed. The vRS was a revelation really, muscular stying, a hell of a punch from the engine, and a bit of a q-car! In terms of outright ability the Ibiza Cupra (petrol or diesel) has it licked, but I still think the vRS is a greater hot hatch. :)

Seem to have missed the Clio Trophy for some reason? Evo seem to continually bang on about it having been the most focussed and rewarding iteration of the little Renault!

And can you really class the Escort Cosworth as a hot-hatch? For me, those 4wd rally machines (Integrale included) fall into a different group entirely.

They also missed out the Daihatsu Charade GTTI 1.0 Litre Turbo.

That was a fun car to drive :)

I'd definately remove the Saxo, VTS or not VTS it's still gonna fall apart. 100% back the top 2 spots, 2 cars I've would still love to own.

Well a puny 1.3 litre Skoda Favorit beat the Ford Cossie competing in the 2 litre category of the 1994 FIA World Rally Championship :rofl:http://www.rallybase.nl/index.php?type=standing&standingid=2lwc1994

Ands Stig Blomqvist finished 3rd in the 1996 RAC in a 1.6 Felicia kit car, but it doesn't make it a hot hatch - it just makes the Stig even more of a driving deity.

Great drivers and a great team will always wring the best from their machinery and that what happened with the Felicia.

That list is pretty much bob-on. I love my vRS, but I'm not sure it should be on the list because it doesn't really handle. That said, there do seem to be too many variants on a French theme for my liking. And truly special cars like the Chevette HSR and Lotus Sunbeam surely deserve some recognition too? Both were properly hot, road-going cars you could buy and run.
