dns and domain name question

Featured Replies

Following on from my debacle with fasthosts, I'm now faced with a new situation I'm not sure how best to resolve.

I have a .co.uk domain name registered with nominet and that won't lapse for another year or so. It was initially registered with 1and1 but I moved it to fasthosts when I created my hosting package with them last week.

Now that I want to cancel my fasthosts account, I don't know what to do with the domain name.

I don't actually need it right now so there's no real need AFAICS to have the DNS pointing to a valid server.

However, if I cancel my fasthosts account, will I lose access to my domain? Will it be "locked" to their DNS servers? Do I have to move it somewhere else even though I'm not using it?

I could reassign it to 1and1 although they're going to charge me. Not much, and I'm happy to do it, but only if it's worth it of if I somehow lose control if I leave it with fasthosts with whom I'll no longer have a hosting service.

Thoughts?

Thanks :)

It depends on how big your fall out was. You can cancel the hosting but still leave the management there. Otherwise you'd be best off transferring it elsewhere.

But if I cancel the hosting, will I then be able to log into the management side if/when I move it (accessing and changing the IPS tag) ?

I'll give them a call tomorrow and find out.

My fallout hasn't been big, I only created my account end of last week. I posted about it in the other thread.
