oil filter part no?

Featured Replies

I changed the oil on my Fabia today,

Feels nice and quiet was the immediate feeling afterwards, funny because the 'old' oil was only 10,000 miles/6months old (Quantum Long life 504/507 stuff).

Scary to think it can be run upto 20,000 miles between changes.

Anyway, something I found out to be a bit strange today.

I bought two oil filters today from VW, one for my Fabia, and one for my mk4 Golf R32. The part numbers differ on the packaging, but the filters are 100% identical, right down to the manufactures markings/part nos which are printed on the actual oil filters.

The parts lady thought it was a bit odd, so she got out a few more filters just to make sure the filters and packagings hadn't been mixed about, but sure enough it was correct.

the reason I was a bit worried was because I had already bought an Oil filter from Eurocarparts last week for the Fabia, but I found it turnt out to be incorrect size when I removed the Fabia's old one today. Lucky my local VW place had them in stock, otherwise It would have been a very angry oil change today!

anyway, it seems strange how VAG list different part numbers for various oil filters, when infact they are the same?!

Fabia TDI 2002 = 071 115 562A (might have different letter on end but that's OK)

Golf mk4 R32 (I did 2001) is also 071 115 562 A :D :D (AQP/AUE engine right?)
