Maximum size of frontspeakers in Fabia

Featured Replies

If I have understood it right, the maximum depth is app. 70mm with a new "custom-made" speakerring and 30mm without. But how big can the speaker be? Is it possible to fit 8" speaker if they are less than 70mm deep?

Possibly. It really depends on the shape of the speaker basket. But you will definately have to build some made-to-spec speaker rings.

It may be a bit tricky though. With that diameter, you'll be limited to how far out they can stick becuase they may well get in contact with the door cards when you try to put them back. I'd start with finding out the depth of those speakers. With that measurement, you can see how little you need to have them sticking out to stay as far away as possible from the front door card.

But if they're too close to the steel plate sheet, you may sacrifice a lot in sound quality as the hole left for the speaker to breathe will be smaller than the speaker size and virtually touching the basket.

I'll try and draw something up to illustrate

Ok, there has been some confusion over standard speaker sizes. This post attempts to explain things a little.

I've done a really carp drawing in paint to try and show what it looks like :D

Hopefully it makes sense...

Thanks for your great reply

I haven't "opened" the door yet, but will the backside of the speaker not breathe in the whole door? If there is only a liter or two behind the speaker I think the sound quality will suffer a lot. As a matter of fact I consider keeping the OEM speaker although I have a set of Boston Pro 6.4 speakers waiting. My headunit is a Blaupunkt Bremen MP74 and after some work with the 27-band equalizer the sound quality is more than ok. But it will off cause be better with new speakers, an external amp and a sub in the trunk :)

At this very moment the big question is: Will my need for great sound win over my laziness ?

No Problem, glad I can help :)

Not trying to boast or sell myself anymore, but have a look at the how-tos on changing the speakers in the ICE section of the forum. I'll try and dig them out in a bit. There are things you need to know to minimise damage to plastic trim, etc. ;)

I eventually did a fibreglass kickbuilds for the main driver units (it's linked from the door howto)

Where can I find the how-tos?

If you do a search for threads I started in the ICE section... Hang on, I'll do a search

edit: This post has all my other major posts linked

Yes, ok, now I understand. Just thought that I could find a "how to section" with a lot of guides.

Does anybody know how thick the Autoleads spacers are?

What I'm really asking is, how deep including spacers can the speakers be if you want them to go in there? The ones I have are 63mm deep so I'm thinking it may be an MDF job to get them to fit :(

I used 2 lots of 18mm mdf for my spacers. To be honest its a bit much as the mdf hits the door car. 18mm+12mm would be better. picture
